May I conduct an experiment?
A Super Furry Animal Posted Jul 27, 2006
1. The Lord Of The Rings. Skimmed it, but, frankly, I doubted I'd learn anything new from it.
2. Level 42 - The Band. Skimmed. May read in depth later.
3. The Winchester Mystery house...something...something. Didn't get past the title.
4. Atoms And Atomic Structure. I did all this when I was at school. Didn't read.
5. XXXX. One of those short, old entries that would never get into the EG these days...loved it!
So, overall score...1 and two halves...2/5.
RF
ps: That bulletproof glass one is excellent, though, so maybe make that 3/6?

A810262: AIDS HIV - General Information. Didn't read it - already know what I need to know, not in the mood for reading about it tonight, but might come back to it.
A994656: The Aass Brewery, Norway - Didn't read, vaguely interested.
A269877: Eccles cakes - might read.
A564707: Ogham - an Ancient Celtic Alphabet - would have been fascinated 10 years ago, still intrigued.
A222940: Jackson, Mississippi, USA - Looks surprisingly interesting.

Okay, here goes.
1. A348824 Dogs. Read first paragraph, lost interest.
2. A954759 Rainbows end- fact or fiction. Got a bit further. Do I just have a really low attention span?
3. A750935 David Dikinson. Not sure why I read it, but I didn't loose interest.
4. A3851129 The Great Fire of London A bit long, but full of interesting information. Has anybody here not been credited with writing this entry?
5. A1171603 Kilburn. Best entry, enjoyed this one.
That makes it.... 3/5.
Oh, and I also found the pyjama entry. Very good.

1. A812774 -Bookmarks--Interesting
2. A787836 -Rush, Arkansas, USA--Not interested at first, but it's really short, so I read it and liked it anyway.
3. A292394 -Brassieres--I'd read this before, back when I first joined h2g2
4. A2715329 -'Thunderpants' - The Film--Not interested, only read first paragraph or so.
5. A491753 -Canudos, Bahia, Brazil and the Blessed Jesus--Maybe another time, but not interested this morning
So... 2.5? If you count the one I read years ago and reread today.

I got:
A1920467 - Equivalence Relations - The mathematics of distinction
With a title like that, I'm bound to read it out of sheer bloody-mindednes.
A311347 - Durham's Ghosts
I love reading about haunted places
A496370 - Best Places to View a Rocket Launch
Pfft. Next!
A1325233 - Pins
This is more like. A wonderfully poker-faced piece.
A1920557 - Cassoulet - French White Bean Stew
No thanks, I'm having fish and chips tonight
3/5.

Interesting experiment.
A427555 - Augusta, Georgia. Middling to poor. Not exactly crammed with information.
A593354 - Koro. Obviously fascinating stuff for no reason other than it's about willies.
A561809 - World Cup 1934. Just my bag; read it before, does that count?
A888780 - How to make a GM plant. Good stuff; enjoyed.
A579189 - Baton Rouge. See Augusta.
3/5 - probably more if I avoid American cities

Well I don't know about anybody else but this has been an interesting exercise for me, and certainly given me cause to think more carefully about how I construct my entries in the future.

A9115229 - 'Let Him Have It!' - The Case of Bentley and Craig
One of the few entries I've commented on. Read it before but I remember being moved to write a comment once I delved into the conversation thread.
A737606 - The Top Ten Reasons to Remember Anchorage, Alaska
Well it had "Germans!" as number nine. Didn't really float my boat...
A272675 - The Bible - a Perspective
I can't stomach anything on religion. I did want to read the rant at the conversation list, but after the poster started mentioning Hitler I zoned out. Not going too well so far.
A676244 - The Shaver Mystery and the 'Truth' about Earth's Past
Now this intrigued me, as sort of weirdy sci-fi things do. A fairly interesting read I'll say.
A517376 - Washington's Crossing of the Delaware River
Now this one's strange. As a historian the subject interested, but as I also fancy myself as a historical writer (my self indulgent piece on Waterloo anyone?) it didn't really engage me. But I suppose it merits half a point.
So for the experiment, 2.5/5
Intriguing thread, and much like B, I'll be staying subscribed.

I got 4 out of 5. Got an entry on Ospreys, one on Lions, a technical one on music, which I skipped, an ancient one on Michigan and one on Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
That was actually quite an entertaining way to spend the last 15 minutes

A3506834 - David Blaine. OK Entry, but I'm just not interested in him. Skimmed it though.
A533792 - The Egg Cream. I read all of it since it was so short. A recipe for a drink made from soda water, chocolate syrup and milk. Hopefully it tastes better than it sounds.
A301131 - Things that go bump in the night. A listy type of entry, browsed through it.
A3176372 - Tallinn, Estonia - World Heritage Site. I don't really read random geographical entries, but look for specific places, but I marked it out to look at later. I'm also prejudiced against Entries that bung on the kms in the first paragraph.
A2821664 - What does an MEP do? Not bad. Read it all.

I think that might be the first 5/5 on this thread! Still, the averages look pretty good....
