Traveller in Time happy
"Must have been due to the recent changes in code surrounding the submit button [Post Message] or alike.
Have not seen it in ages indeed I was a little worried last time I tried.
The changes in the process behind the Submit are mainly timing. I think the window to get 'Please do not press this button again' has got pretty small. (In case it still works that way, I have not seen it in Dandas)"

Honestly, it's still there. I saw it last week whilst getting impatient updating an entry. Honest, guv, they 'aven't had away with it!

I wish they bloody well would - it's a pain in the fundament sometimes, especially when the servers are playing up. It's easy enough to deal with - you just have to go to your browser's preferences and switch off Javascript, but you then have to remember to switch it back on because other web features won't work if you forget.

"So there is nothing wrong in a technical way with the site, now we should restore some of the Cultural Heritage.
Where is the 'Infinite Improbability Drive' button ?
Where is the button ?
Where is the < <./>beware.of.the.leopard</.> > list of allowed words ? "

"Cultural Heritage" is a really good term for it.

I know this is a bit radical, but since TPTB think it is not clear to visitors what the IID does, could we not have the IID button back but with a small added explanation of what it does, then everyone wins?

"then everyone wins"
Not my grievences, as laid out here: F2760410?thread=2769718.
Also, as has been pointed out, the most likely explanation for the change is the need to make cuts, a whole 72bits have been saved by replacing IID. An explanation would contain 100's of bits more !!!!

I have just read that bit, but no compromise could end up with IID button gone forever.
To me a returned IID button with a brief explanation would at least get IID button back, the alternative could just be end of IID button forever!

Traveller in Time adding to the confusion
"The link under the button already says < <./>RandomEditedEntry</.> > what more deconfusion would you give?
Something like:
Infinfite Improbability Drive
perhaps ?
The TITLE="This button takes you to one of the Edited Entries" will show up in most browsers as a popup with the text. But any curious person would have read the destination in the Status bar or in the Address bar anyway.

Do they have red buses in Italy?

Only during the winter when the British ones drive south to avoid the cold weather before driving north again in the spring. This makes it very difficult to find a bus in the UK during the between autumn and spring and is one of the two reasons British people hate winter so much (the other being constant reruns of 'Nearest and Dearest' on ITV).
I have to go now, it's half past... ooh, I must get a little hand put on this watch.

i was dissapointed to see it change. and i'd smiled the first time i'd seen it. it's not hard to guess what it's for, really. also i think it must be not only on the front page but somewhere handy.

I don't know where you find the time or the energy.
Good luck to you all.
I'm not staying on the internet for another minute.

Omigod!
Yes, the whole 'cultural heritage' of "happenstance as a way of life" is being threatened. Chance would be a fine thing, yes, but it's a much, much finer thing if you know what not to expect and are pleased with whatever results.
It was the IID that helped create CAC and the philosophy that one man's entry is as good as another man's exit. These are fundamental issues, the basis of hootoo existence aka h2g2existentialism.
With no Infinite Improbability Drive button to push the chances grow smaller that any of us will get out of here alive.
But... my god, imagine someone having no understanding of what an IID is and what it does (imagine such an empty Liff ) These poor wretches are left with nothing more than a silly Random Entry Button which makes no sense at all.
Think about it! To randomly go where few have gone before seems entirely pointless outside the context of IID. Why would anyone ever want to use a REB with no contextual understanding of the power of IID?
