"The 'Infinite Improbability Drive' is _not_ back !
What we now have is the political correct version of the < <./>RandomEditedEntry</.> > the concession made is that there is a permanent visible spoiler to the surprise.
The 'Infinite Improbability Drive' should be as the name says infinite improbable, not limited to Edited Entries and certainly not announcing on the lid that it will take you to an entry .
What we have managed is the name back on the frontpage, not the confusion, not the inspiration. This is a modernised rebuild of the button as we charished in the Cultural Heritage of the site. "

Er, no, Traveller, it's the same button with the same function, but a clearer label.
Oh, and it actually *works*, which it didn't do immediately prior to the change... not that many people seemed to notice or complain about that.

But the fact that the button didn't work properly also fits with the hitchhiker's theme.
And you guys fixed it.

Well, we already know about <./>RandomEntry</.>, <./>RandomRecommendedEntry</.> and <./>RandomEditedEntry</.>, and can type the URLs directly without needing to visit the Front Page. But that's only a shortcut.

Jimster, I don't know when it wasn't working, but I use the button nearly every time I'm on h2g2 and I didn't come across that.
I do have a link to it on my PS, so it's possible I was using that (which worked fine) rather than the button which didn't.

Well, with price of petrol being what it is I'm not surprised.
Also somewhat distressed to see the personalised link to no longer functions. So much for Heritage, so much for Legacy, so much for Tradition and way too much for petrol.

I only discovered that link earlier today, and it did work. I was <./>browse</.>ing on the <./>NamedEntries</.> page and I saw it. I hadn't noticed it before.
Let's see: <./>AGGGAG</.>. (The only Named Entry which reverts to a normal number in the address bar after clicking.)
TRiG.

Nope I've still not got it right.
What am I doing wrong?

STRANGELY STRANGE ( A brain on a spring ) Posted Apr 29, 2006
With all due respect to the Edited Guide writers, but the IID button, although interesting, is not the gateway to the weird and wacky.
A random search of the unedited guide is where it is at, for strange and wonderful things.
My latest find is tittled "Blank Page" and is indeed just a blank page!

I have given some consideration to the distinction between 'weird and wacky' and 'strange and wonderful' and have concluded that it must be entirely subjective.
That said, grate mines dew think alight, and I am proud to say that
A153622 was featured in a very early issue of <./>AGGGAG</.>CAC-C.
