Where was Eric Clapton born?
Ormondroyd Posted Nov 4, 1999
According to my copy of the "Guinness Rockopedia" reference book, Eric Clapton was born in Ripley, Surrey, England on the 30th of March 1945.

Ormondroyd you are better than 'ask h2g2'! I knew that EC was born in Ripley, but there are 4 Ripleys in Britain as any fule know. I did ask that question in ask h2g2 but noone bothered answering.
And since I didn't actually -ask- that question here anyway, it goes to show how brilliant I think u are!

And his birthday's going onto my calender as well!
I had quickly checked my little brother's Simpson's calender and it was on there. Never occured to me to look at every day of the year on it beforehand.

Oh well... Since I see many of you are from the USA, I don't know if you know where Norway is, but that's where I am from anyway.
It's a country in North of Europe, right across the sea from England.. and we don't have ice bears in the streets....

We don't have ice bears in Bristol either, but we do have an Ikea. Does that count?

Updated summary, for the trivia fans among us.
Note: For those of us who listed multiple places, I chose the
current residence (assuming I could figure out which one that is),
unless the researcher emphatically specified some other city as
home.

I dissagree with your description of my previous dissagreement (the one to which you dissagreed) as cheeky. Oh wait, I meant to say agree.
I'm just kidding, I've never been to brustles. What's the weather like? (if it's anything like Montreal than it dosn't kick ass)

Mike A (snowblind) Posted Nov 5, 1999
Do you know about the Gulf Stream. It's basically a giant current that brings 'warm' water alongside Britain. That's why Britain is on the same latitude (longitude?) as Canada and Scandinavia but has 'considerably' better weather.
So the weather's probably better than Montreal. Probably.
I hate summers in the UK. They arn't wet as most people think. They're too damn hot!

Okay, I admit it... I'm from the States. But from the state I'm in, I can travel to London, Brisbane, Dublin, Paris, Rome, Glassgow, Manchester, Eden... and a host of other places... and never cross the state line.

I'm from Barry. South Glamorgan, South Wales, just to add a bonafide welsh person, Barry has got the second highest tide in the world and in 1997 had the second highest crime rate per capita, in the world, after NY; (population Barry 65,000) mainly due to car theft.
Another interesting fact is that only two miles outside town, the first ever radio broadcast in the world, was made, by Marconi, at Lavernock and five miles further on, Scott set out on his voyage to Antarctica.
And if you have a grandfather who used to go to sea and came to Barry, then they know the chain locker, a pub that sadly no longer exists, (but I bet they can tell you a storey). Perhaps you could tell me...

Hi chaps! I'm from jolly olde England via a Welsh father and English mother and grew up in G.L.C. land (now defunct Greater London Council - ask Ken Livingstone, one of the "real" candidates for mayor of London). Used to live in Ickenham, Middlesex then moved to Middle Wallop in Hampshire, worked in Winchester. I lived in New Zealand for a time (Hibiscus Coast) and now reside in County Durham, England where I'm temporalily "marooned". Its nearly always windy here! We're hoping to move to Cornwall next year (England for any "colonials" reading this!).
