Captain_SpankMunki [Keeper & Former ACE] Thanking <Diety of choice> for the joy of Goo.

Not the best - cos that causes all sorts of unnecessary conflict.

I'll start off:

Bowling for Soup - Girl All the Bad Guys Want

"She broke my heart, I wanna be sedated
All I wanted was to see her naked!"

Liam.

Gnomon - time to move on

If goodest doesn't mean best, what does it mean?

Well.. come on now. Goodest means the best of the good - bestest means best of the best. It's higher up. *scrabbles wildly at the sides of the hole he dug for himself*

Where's your lyrics then?

Liam.

Any given couplet from Up The Junction by Squeeze.

Take the first pair for example:

I never thought that it would happen
With me and the girl from Clapham

Otto Fisch ("Stop analysing Strava.... and cut your hedge")

Most things by Pulp! Particularly Common People, Disco 2000 (?)

There's a great neo-punk song by a Perth (Australia) band called "Friendly", who I really hoped would make it big so I could get a copy of this song. It's difficult to express the lyrics here, because they're full of bad words, but they express a deep and fundamental truth about relationships, and it's a bit of a bloke anthem (given that it's sung by blokes, partly...)
Here's a paraphrased version:

"I love you, but if you treat me like excrement, you can just go away"

More later, I'm sure.

Nice threadsmiley - smiley

Pink Floyd, 'Hey You':

"But it was only fantasy
The wall was too high, as you can see.
No matter how he tried he could not break free
And the worms ate into his brain."

All together now... "YEUUGH!"smiley - tongueout

Tsk, person-whose-name-uses-symbols-I-can't-type, you should know that 'worms' on The Wall is a metophor for the darker, fascistic side of Pink's personality, such as the judge in the finale ("Good morning Worm, your honour") and the temptations of blind racial hatred ("All you have to do is follow the worms").

Viewed in this sense, the lyric you cite can clearly been interpreted as the final collapse of Pink's conscious mind to the inner demons that have plagued him throughout the album. From this point on, the torment and self-destruction of the trial becomes inevitable; and in the film, this represents the transition from the rock-star personality to the fascist leader.

It's also cool 'cos it makes you go 'Yeurgh'! smiley - winkeye

I dream of occasional fanzine mentions,
I've been to one too many David Lynch conventions,
I play postal chess with a man who doesn't know me,
I've got a better frown than Tony Iommi."

-Lo-Fidelity Allstars, I Used To Fall In Love.

I changed my mind about this here relationship that you became so complacent with,
I changed my mind and sacrificed everything we had for half the price,
Changed my mind, plain and simple now take a trip too girl,
Changed my mind, I've tried to keep it quiet but now, why the hell you wanna go and advertise?!

Giford,

I understand that the lyrics are metaphorical - I just thought that the imagery (?) was particularly cool.

As for the username - sorry about that. It's the real name of the knife in the book 'The Subtle Knife' by Phillip Pullman and I thought it was pretty cool - unfortunately, I'd forgotten about other peole having to use it!smiley - sadface

"Wise men want faith,
Fools want gold,
Sailors want water,
But you want it all."

Thought I'd better do a reasonably sensible one before I spend the next month quoting Half Man Half Biscuit at you. smiley - winkeye

Alright then.

"I asked if you would like to go along
To see the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
You said you'd love to so I murdered your family,
'cause I hate the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Besides, I'm going browsing round hardware shops."

As far as cheesy, corny lyrics go, I have a collection of thousands...

On a personal note, the lyrics that will always mean most to me (aside from the song at the top of my Personal Space), are generally those of futility - Man On The Moon (REM) and Stan (Eminem) are fine examples.
