Well I see I had Marjin wrong. Um ooops
When you can't say him her she he etc I makes for some sentence re-thinks.
Who ever guessed me as Male on the first page, did you cheat?

I get it wrong about half the time, except where people make it obvious. But it rarely comes as a great shock - unless the conversation is in some way gender-specific it doesn't matter. That's one of the democratic things about online conversation - you are who you say you are, if you choose to say.
Nearly everybody seems to get me right, but as I make no secret of it and it says on my personal space that's not surprising. Whether they'd get it from my nickname alone I don't know, but I think it likely.
Just to shoot the Captain and Admiral theory down - I normally refer to Mrs Kebab as the Admiral.

Anyway, I don't care too much about the gender of the people I'm talking with - as long as the conversation is good, everthing's fine with me.
But of course I catch myself at getting the idea of someone elses gender by the sound of their names.

It should not matter what gender the person you talk to has, but it may save some embarrasment by knowing it. So I normally 'cheat' and have a quick look into the personal space.
And more important, that may give you some background or interesting ideas for your own space

I don't mention my gender on my personal space, and it's not eveident from my name, it just doesn't seem relevent. I wonder if you can guess my gender from my personal space? go on try!

Male.
My housemates don't get this annoyed, I think it might be due to the fact that I'm not gay....and I somehow think that my masculinity is threatened. Does this make me homophobic? I keep telling myself that I can't be I go to gay clubs with them.

Why do some of us prefer not to reveal their gender? It's not an issue for me, but some researchers prefer to keep it quiet.
I was about to say that I could be lying, of course, but I've been to h2g2 meets and there's pictures of me. Oh well, I'm never going to get that job as a secret agent.

I don't really think about it generally.
Researchers are researchers.
Simple.

Even though my name translates as White Castle, I assume its fairly obvious by my postings that I'm female.
If it isn't obvious by other researchers names or pages as to their gender, I keep postings ambiguous.

Caerwynn, I always assumed you were female even though I didnt know your name meant white castle. When a person writes something, what they say and how they say it normally gives away their gender. Dont you find this? If they post more than a few words- that is.

The only give away I'm ever concerned about is age. It's the only pre judgement I've ever come accross offline.

Gender is how masculine or feminine you are, through appearance and character/ personal traits...sexual preference may or may not be involved in this

People always seem to think I'm younger or older than I actually am. Either one bothers me.
