a tv show, that ran for about 5 or 6 series and then disappeared - rumour was that the next series was coming but we never got it here (nz) they are currently doing reruns of it on dodgy tv4 here (all good)

I dunno. I know there hasn't been a new series in the United States. The guy from that show is now doing Star Trek, so I'm betting he's not going to get involved in any more quantum leaps.

The series came to a conclusion (which I won't spoil if you haven't already seen it it), and Scott Bakula went on to become the latest incarnation of William Shatner

What do you think?Imagine you are the writer and you have to come up with a concluding/possible ending.

Erm. Ok, I seem to remember through the mists of time that there was some sad reason that he agreed to do the stupid thing in the first place. Did he jump into himself just before whatever the bad thing was and put it all right again so that he never went and jumped at all?
My memory fails me in trying to remember what the bad thing was...

Not as such, no. The last episode (as I remember it) was very good, with various returning actors/characters, and a "sort of" explanation as to why he kept leaping.
Thinking of UK Gold, they repeated the one with Al's first wife a couple of weeks ago. I missed it the first time around and rather enjoyed it. Very poignant at the end I thought.

but I still don't know what the outcome was!
Is anyone here going to be seriously upset if the ending of a series that finished on terrestrial tv years ago is revealed? It is going to bug me until I find out...

I'd like to know too! I can't get UK gold anymore, until I can persuade my other half to install satelite for me. Go on Blues Shark, you know you want to.

Okay, the last episode of Quantum Leap, as I remember it, form years ago rightly. If you don't want to see, turn away now.
Sam leaps in and finds himself in a bar. He orders a pint and when he looks at his wallet, its his own. Has a picture of Sam and everything. He then looks in a mirror and sees his own face. As the episode goes on he has no idea where he is, but recognises various people from previous leaps, all in the bar, but not always claiming to be the same people. The barman, played by the same actor who played the psychologist/safety guy in the first episode, seems to know who Sam is and what he has been up to. I can't remember much about the middle of the episode, and how things are explained but by the end, we are convinced that the barman is working with the "power" that controls Sam's leaps. The barman asks Sam what he wants to do, he is free to go where ever he wants now. Sam replies that he wants to go home. Then he thinks and says he has one last thing to do. He then leaps out. He appears, still looking like himself, in the corner of a room. Turns out it is Al's first wife's room. Sam tells her that Al is okay, and that he will return, thus changing Al's history. Sam then leaps out again. A text caption then appears to say that Al returned home from Vietnam, his wife waited and they lived happily ever after. A second caption then appears. Sam never returned home. The End.
Please remember I have not seen this in years and have a terrible memory, so I might be wrong, but I think the jist is correct.
Munchkin, when will Jonathon Archer say "Oh Boy"?

If I remember correctly (which I may not as so much time has passed since it was on BBC2) The above synopsis is right, but it was inferred that he could go home if he wanted to... he just didn't want to.

How many of you can remember the voice over from the theme.
Theorising that one could travel through time, Dr Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap Accelerator ........and vanished!!! He awoke to find himself in s strange place, facing mirror images that were not his own........
Can anyone else continue??

"... His only guide on this journey is Al, a hologram who only Sam can see and hear. And so he leaps from life to life, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next leap will be the Leap home."
So says I, who has all 5 seasons on video from when they were in the 5pm weekday slot on Sky One, and hoping that the next leap will be the Leap to DVD...!
