It's a lovely morning with little, puffy clouds and not stinking hot yet. YAY! The worst part of summer is almost over.
We were missed entirely by Ivan. It made landfall on the Alabama coast yesterday and is now a tropical storm. I guess today all the millions of people who evacuated the coastline From Lousiana to the Florida panhandle will be going home. Hopefully they will have a home to return to. http://www.cnn.com/2004/WEATHER/09/17/hurricane.ivan/index.html

South Florida Saturday 25th September 14.15.
Squalls and wind starting to increase.
Hurricane Jeanne, Category 3, 120mph winds currently over Grand Bahama
will be coming ashore somewhere around Stuart FL sometime tonight.
This will be more devastating than Frances, and is expected to strengthen on its way across the Gulf Stream.
Hurricane force winds extend up to 70 miles from the centre.
I just heard the first TV reporter saying "Look at those trees!"

Mild and clear night.
Was in Krakow, Poland earlier today where it was bright and sunny and lovely and about 15c. What a jetsetter am I?

Raining. A lot. I got caught in a heavy downpour at lunchtime and I now have to spend the rest of the day sat at my desk in wet clothes.

P.S. -- shouldn't have talked about earthquakes in another post -- seems fair chance we'll have one soon!!! Little and not so little quakes all up and down the San Andreas fault this week...
Off to pack my quake bag.

Sea Change Posted Oct 3, 2004
Rosh Hashannah, Los Angeles (about two weeks ago) 2100hr
This particular temple is off Mulholland, which borders the Los Angeles basin and the San Fernando Valley. While hurricanes end up in Florida, in the Pacific, they start up off the coast of California. Tail ends of the birthing storms wend their way up from Mexico and get squeezed out by the transverse ranges, so September is a typical rain month.
Clouds have scudded across the LA basin making the first time the air has been moist (but not very cool) instead of very sere and desert-y. The combination of the cooling moisture on the LA side & the heat/dry of the San Fernando side causes some serious atmospheric turbulence. The city twinkles & glistens outrageously in the dark, and yet urban detail is clearly visible (through the desert side) from the heights.
At the end of late service, the coolth and moisture have won. It is a huge contrast from the warm open and buttery light of the temple and the sweeping dense mists that swaddle the temple grounds. They tickle and zing as they settle opn ones face and through one's clothing, and swirl through the willow out front. The mist has only recently settled, though, so the body heat of everyone leaving quickly burns it away.
