I'm trying to limit myself-we've only just got a PS2, and I already have 3 dvd's. I didn't buy a copy of Big Blue for £8.(Though I suspect I shall go back tomorrow and buy it.)
My video collection is full of nonsense that was bought @just because' and i don't want to do the same thing again.

Mine's full of videos that were in the 3 for £20 or bargain buckets in HMV and the like.
This seems to be the best place to get classics as everyone else seems to want to get the videos to Godzilla and Independence Day . I did have to pay through the nose to get The Good The Bad and the Ugly though - spent *ages* looking for it though - i think they must have lost it.
Three cheers for Silent Running by the way. Are they really remaking it? Seems a strange one to remake - will they remake Dark Star though? Surely the Beachball Alien is irreplaceable.

I don't think UI paid full price for more than 20% of my video collection. It's just too big and full of stuff that, realistically, I'm never going to watch again.
Time for a boot sale clearance.

Dark Star was a remake of itself, though... The live action was a student film shot on 16mm, while the special effects were shot on 32mm years later and the live action optically enlarged to fit.

I didn't get the box set Clive because I had most of the DVDs when it came out...and the special documentary you get with the box set? Taped it off the telly

I saw the odyssey film some years after it came out. I couldnt see what all the fuss was about, didnt think much about the film either.

I can't remember when I *first* saw 2001.
I will continue to recommend and defend it as a innovative and brilliant piece of cinema however.

Woah, a bit spooky this thread resurfacing as I was watching Saxondale on Beeb2 last night and the man himself was commenting on 2001 right at the end.
It was along the lines of:
'Let's go and see 2001 A Space Odyssey at the arts Cinema tonight. It's the special Director's Cut. It is a bit shorter in places with some added material at the end with some extended scenes in the middle. I'm not that bothered really, I just want to see how that last bit it physically possible'
made me chuckle.

I was looking for this thread after watching Channel 4's countdown of "movies to see before you die" the other night.

I saw Saxondale, and the Channel 4 show. Thought it was a bit spooky this thread being resurrected right after. Like when you hear some obscure '70s song on the radio three times in one week (when no singer has died).
My opinion: I've seen it, I was impressed, and I'm quite happy that having seen it I'm not expected to again. A classic probably, but Christ, what a slog...
