I'm struck by the length of many screen names here. Are you vying with each other? Finding out what the limit is? Ex DOS users, rejoicing in the freedom from 8-character filenames? I'd be intrigued to know!

Mine's the shortest
I tried out some longer stuff, and an advert or two. But it felt uncomfortable so I changed back. Short names are the new black.

I've had the same name since I joined a few years ago. It expresses a side of me that I'm happy with. That's all.

I change my screen name whenever I get a new title, or find something that I really want to express. This is not very often. Still, I like the idea of giving people a number of things to think about from their first impression of you. It's like being able to change your body, but not knowing how to make big muscles or a handsome face.

Isn't it a maximum of 255 characters long? Or am I just imagining that.

Hmm. Having just tried it, the limit seems to be 127 characters or thereabouts... that was the limit for a loooong line of dots, anyway.

See, I told you I was imagining things
So the maximum length is 2^7 rather than 2^8. Fine, not sure what that means, no doubt some tech will tell us all

Hey, I'm a tech!
I dunno though, 255 would be the obvious one... but I suspect they thought that was too long. And programmers just generally like powers of two

At least 26199 has a vocation if not an Appelachian.
Mine's ~jwf~ three letters long.
That makes it easy to type to me if anyone feels like typing to me. It's also my real initials and it's followed by my real name and e-mail address. The rest is advertising. Which is what I do.
