I probably lurk more than post, I like to have a good look around the site, but very often have nothing to contribute.
With regards to privacy, well of course there isn`t any. If it`s posted, it`s there to be read. That doesn`t mean I would always feel free to "jump in" to a conversation, particularly, as has already been mentioned, when the conversation appears to be just between two people.
But, as newbies are usually advised, there is only one way to get involved, and that is to jump in!
A bit of exploratory lurking does help, though!

I just about managed to grab siestas when I was in france but that was because my average night was 2am - 6am!
