Finally started to read for fun again (now I have a wee bit of time) and started Dark Star, the book of the film. As the blurb goes - Bombed out in space, with a spaced out bomb smiley - smiley The question is when will it be shown again....

Was that some sort of cryptic reference to Robinson Crusoe? I've just started 'Sharpe's Tiger' by Bernard Cornwell. I'm not normally into 'war stories', but Cornwell writes good battles.

I'm reading Vurt, By Jeff Noon (not for the first time)smiley - smiley. Actually, to be honest, I just finished it. Does it still count? If not, then I guess it would have to be one of my course books smiley - yawn. They're kind of an ongoing project since they're so boring. Oh well, nothing happening here. I'll go.

Phil (just the one head)

Just started Cryptonomicon (Neal Stephenson) and just finished Congo Journey (Redmond O'Hanlon). Hands up everyone who thinks travel books are dull. Best book I've read in a long time. Maybe you haven't tried Redmond O'Hanlon.

Trollope - The Way We Live Now for the train and the same as Ekki for bedtime.

Although I am quite tempted to read the book I just bought a friend for his birthday. It is fantastically titled 'Astral Projection for Beginners'.

He will never need to take the Tube to work again! smiley - laugh

smiley - hug Abi ...

The problem I had when reading HP, hazlenut, was that I kept missing stops! ... kept thinking I was at Hogwarts ... minus the broomstick obviously - that would be taking things a little too far!

Yes I had the same problem. The other problem I have now is I really resent my parents for not sending me to Hogwarts. I feel I have been deprived in some way!

Sophies World is good, but it has a kinda week ending. (This to whoever said they were reading it)

I am reading Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut. Its insanly good if the preface is anything to judge by, as that is all I have actually read...
Anyone read it?

Nightshade, Guardian Angel and Grey Lady

smiley - biggrin I love it when I have read so many good books that other people think are good... I have read Sophie's World by Jostien Gaarder, am currently re-reading The Fifth Elephant by Terry Pratchett, have just returned The Redemption of Althalus to the library, have read and own all of the Harry Potter books (movie tickets booked four weeks in advance) and The Lord of the Rings. As to Sophie's World, I don't think it's a weak ending, just a bit disjointed? Maybe that's not the right word. Have you tried any of his other books? The Solitaire Mystery is good-it amazes me how he manages to get so many references to cards in. I thought that the Christmas Mystery was a bit childish and picture-booky, not that I have anything against picture-books. smiley - silly I also liked Vita Brevis, also found under the title of That Same Flower (I think.)

I am half way through 'The Forest' by Edward Rutherford. I am a bit disappointed by this one after having read two of his other books, 'Sarum' and 'London', the latter being my favourite.

I am one of those rare creatures (around here anyway) that likes to read one book at a time so that I can absorb it and live it and not get muddled by lots of storylines.

My next book will be (I hope - please Santa) 'The Black House' by Peter Straub and Stephen King. I read Talisman 3 times and can't wait for this one. I won't ask people that have already read it if it's good 'cos everybody's tastes are different when it comes to literature. I will ask however whether you enjoyed it?
