So; i reckon it's time for an ewe (oops, i mean New!) EYE thread; since there seems some confusion between which EYE thread is the current one...so please abandon ship & move here, spread the word!

So; here i am if you want to say hello "you lot" & bring me up to date with what's going on in your lives etc. Tried to do this last night, but hootoo was down

Here in 'sunny intervals with showers' Eyeland, life is just pretty well grand; i feel truly blessed to be living on a lovely farm, with lovely Yoda now retrieved from France, along with Edda, Fritz and of course, the unbelievably wonderful hooman, P.

Today is August 5, 2009, a fairly typical day...

6a.m: wake 'cos it's dawn, but go back to sleep, Yoda!

8a.m: Finally get up, feed ; have home made blackcurrant hot drink outside & watch the second set of swallows this year feeding hungry baby birds.

8.30a.m: P gets up, after etc, he gets his fix & we discuss what to do today, weather seems to be set to 'middling nice', meaning lots of both Solar & Wind power, so he does washing machine, i hoover, he then goes on computer, i potter around being good little Haûsfrau!

9:30 ish, is 2nd breakfast time, cats have meanwhile been basking in the sun, hunting down small creautures to torment (unsucessfully!)
P has counted, continued to hack the jungle back to manageable height, stockpiled wood....etc. so we decide to go into town.

Town being a rather tiny one, mainly composed of pubs & not muchly changed for centuries.

It's a nice place,very 'user friendly'! So: updates please on where 'you lot'; my lovely fiends are living; how does it compare, what are the pluses & minuses? If money/career/family obligations etc were *not* a consideration; would you choose to stay where you are, or go elsewhere, roam the world or what?

If money/etc were no object, I'd like to live just where I am, but nearer the lake.

The last few weeks have been spent house-hunting. We've looked at a house, four townhouses (semidetached is apparently what they're called in the UK), and two condos. Two more houses tomorrow.

Maybe I'll luck out and find one that's Just Right closer to the lake.

Other than that, not much else going on. We still need to chat sometime soon.

Good to see you online- I miss seeing as often but am so happy it's because your life is so full of good stuff now.

I love my apartment. Wouldn't want to move. I have plenty of room, lots of big windows, it's quiet, and pretty safe. I guess I wouldn't want to leave Memphis because all my family is here. If that weren't a factor, I dunno, I've always thought Seattle looked nice.

Hmm; PC, hope you get somewhere nice soon; it's awful 'knowing' what sort of place would ideally suit, but often getting 'gazumped' or just missed it, or it just didn't feel quite right.

Yes, we really *must* get the chat thingy together ASAP on gmail, i have managed to chat with JEllen; which was great! But i do realise we all have different time stuff; i used to be up till the wee small hours on the Beast, which would coincide with USAnian times; but now i'm more likely to be dropping into bed according to the weather & physical effort that's happened in daytime, so tend to go to bed earlier.

I was reading an article today about the effects on 'brain health' if we don't do what folk did way back, rise with the dawn, go to bed when it's dark, change with the seasons etc...it somehow makes a lot of sense and is obviously much more likely to happen in places like this: no external artificial lights, we don't do curtains, just big windows, the only creature likely to spy on us is the odd passing!!!

JEllen, hmm, Seattle...don't know much about it, other than that famous Meg Ryan scene in the restaurant!...tel me more, my USAnian geography is pretty well near zero...How is Micio & have you converted that nice balcony into a jungle yet? What are the neighbours like?

We've got some busy times ahead here, maybe a Couchsurfer (via Snaily) from Italy coming to stay, this weekend is some sort oftraditional Fair, craft stalls, fireworks, street music etc, then off to do Solar inspections for maybe another 10 days (poor<cat back in Hilton Ireland!), we take Edda along & find pet friendly places to stay or sleep in the van. This one's South West Eye Land, so a good opportunity to keep tryiing to trace me roots!

Meanwhile, V may be out here mid/late Sept(he is P's son, trainee architect); he will probably have a fit when he sees that after he built the basic new porch using Proper Methods last year, meanwhile me & P have been merrily recycling all sorts of things into the structure; we spent a lovely day inserting two old glass panels i brought from Angoulême above the door frame; they let in green & brown sunlight; PC, you may be pleased to heard some of your consignment of 'shiny bits' are also part of the structure!!!

There's now a large hole where the roof used to be in the guest room; we want to replace it with windows, since it leads direct to the porch, it gets loads of light...but since very little in old Irish cottages is in straight lines, it's difficult to measure up for glass! Plus we are hunting online for Eco friendly wood varnish for the frames. Oh, P.C, once you get your dream home "all this too, my fiend, shall be yours"....nest building is hard work, but fun!

Micio is doing very well. The neighbors are mostly very quiet. I only really know one of them. She's nice.

I only want to find a new home because we're outgrowing this one, and also my grandmother left me enough money for a down payment and my dad gave me some of his inheritance to pay off some bills and stuff.

It's amazing how Her Majesty Queen Yoda has settled in here, she is totally enjoying exploring the great outdoors, showing that youngster boy Fritz how to acquire necessary Life Skills & ignoring the Thing that is called Dog. She is flirting outrageously with P, who is of course totally charmed by this creature, to the extent that he is considering marrying her; she's already got a turquoise collar with diamante bling on to match her eyes, Fritz has a plain black one with a now chew offable section labelled "My Home is..."

Edda has a collar & her own seatbelt harness; i am beginning to feel deprived!!

Did someone say Seattle?

I figured it is time to drop by again on the old Hootoo, and there you are, speaking about one of my favourite cities ever!
Of course, some of that is for personal reasons but I really do love the US Pacific Northwest, it's a beautiful area. And Seattle is a big city that doesn't feel like a 'Big City' (kinda like Jerusalem, in that aspect; it's the largest city in Israel, but doesn't have that 'Big City' vibe like Tel Aviv does for example). Lots of water, lots of seafood , lots of fun and music... it is great.

To continue with the thread topic, I don't really see myself permanently living anywhere but Israel - I am much too attached to that place - but I wouldn't mind living in the Pacific Northwest for a while.

Or in New York City... which I just might, soon enough. (journal post upcoming, once I find it in my backlog)

Wasn't there a couple of years ago a prolific researcher who wrote a whole entry on PR about the Seattle's traffic roundabout? It did my head in, that one.

I go to sleep with a daydream about a big medieval farmhouse in the Pyrenees in the middle of winter. The place is completely snowed in, totally cut off from the outside world. I'm alone with my dog and cat in the kitchen in the early morning (it's still dark outside, an oil-lamp is burning on the old, big wooden table) and underneath the kitchen is the stable where the horse, the chicken, the cow and sheep live. But before feeding them and give the stable a good scrub, I've got to build a fire in the stove and have a myself. Brr, it's cold.

Then it is summer. I've got an appointment with my American publisher in New York. Afterwards, I buy a second hand cabriolet and with the dog in the passenger seat I drive across the country towards Tuscon, Arizona, to visit my collegue and friend Leslie Marmon Silko to have a good conversation and a prolonged snigger.

In LA I take the plane back to the Pyrenees.

I'm actually having some thinking about where I'd like to live... There's R's house, which is big enough to have me and my children too, and my house, which the children have grown up in, but then there is also Hawaii, where he has a house (people rent it now), and my grandparents old farm, which was sould out to non-family ten years ago - I just don't know!

Oh, and then I would love to live in Provence (I think), or even Malmö.

I best stay where I am until I've made my mind up.

But I have been wanting more and more to visit Scandinavia. Apparently flight prices from Iceland to the US are pretty low (well, it's relatively close), so now I'm thinking if (when?) I'm in NYC, it could be a nice vacation sometime. Looks beautiful!

Do come visiting! Via Iceland used to be cheap, but I haven't compared for ages...

I'm very happy living in Canterbury. It's large enough to have the things I need - shops, work, two theatres (luxury!), but small enough not to be overwhelming. It has some beautiful architecture and some nice green spaces, and the surrounding countryside is absolutely beautiful.

If I had the money,I'd bail out of Britain - can't write more it'd get yiked

If I had the money, I'd stay in this town, Pietersburg/Polokwane - but simply get myself a larger plot of land, to start up my botanical garden! For plants, the climate here is close to ideal.

My mam has recently had a fall and now is in hospital and has had an surgery done to her broken hip.

I had my a strange noise last night, and it sounded as like one the locals were having a fight late at night at outside.

My cousins daughter is getting married on August 14th.
