EYE LAND!
Websailor Posted Sep 5, 2009
Terri,
We have separate interests and joint ones and spend a lot of time apart, gainfully employed so it gives us fresh things to talk about. I think it takes a while to have that trust, which is what it amounts to really, but I have never gone in for being 'joined at the hip' it is too sad then if one partner dies. We all need to keep our own lives going alongside a joint one.
As for knitting, my other half (Ex Army) used to knit a lot. We used to do half a jumper each for the kids, though getting our tension compatible wasn't easy
I don't know if it is the same now, but years ago men in the Forces used to knit, crochet and embroider to pass the time in lulls between activity, especially if posted out in the middle of nowhere. A friend's boyfriend crocheted a beautiful dress for her while in Aden. After all they don't need to prove or pretend they are macho men

Terri that is one thing I have never been able to pick up, I have tried to knit several times but have always have to have some one cast on and off for me. I keep on adding stiches but I don't know how I do it and then I am always dropping them. At school we had bobbins with nails in (my friends) and did a type of knitting then. I have had a few sewing kits where it's more like a type of manual weaving. Once a family friend when I was living in the North East and I was about the age of 5 or 6 showed me how to do crotchet and what I remembered it was quite easy but I have not don't it since then.

Hi Terri! I used to knit on a spool too! Used the spool on which knitting-yarn was wound, knocked four nails in at the top, and used it to knit little 'ropes' from wool!

Thanks Terri for the link and the pics, brings back memories of being showed by school mates in the school yard when I was living in Plaistow in the early 70's.
I have sent the picture of a giraffe from Edinburgh zoo. The only memory I have of Edinburgh (I was born there) was when I went to the zoo at the age of 5 when I was living in Northumberland and the only memory I have is of looking at the giraffe. And since then I always associated giraffes with Edinburgh.

Scotish giraffes!!!! Nice one, Thinker! Was it wearing a kilt?
With many of us on here being types, i reckon we could send this guy loads of pix of *our own personal vision of a giraffe*....do mention it ws Terri who sent you via hootoo; the guy got straight back to me by email, which was great
I've drafted out the first part of the play; if it works hopefully the audience should leave damp seats behind
Getting the new area/guest room together today, brill!
Went to ; this damn leg is still oozing yuk stuff, so back on the dreaded antibiotics. Doc is great, invited him to my birthday Bog Shindig. However, he seems more interested in his Solar panel installation & spent around 3/4 hour trying to pick my brains on this...
"Now, this collector cylinder, is it Ok to have a T Junction at the top, what about the temperature differential, what sort of insulation should be around the brass piping, do ye think there might be a circulation problem with the pump?"
"I have no clue; ask P!"
"where is he? Is he in the waiting room?"
"maybe, he took for walkies"
"can you see if he's back yet?"
(He wasn't!, probably avoiding an hour long free consultation with waiting room full of sick people!)
Once he started drawing actual diagrams, i suggested he email me with detailed list of possible areas of concern, for me to copy to P & by the way, could he check my ears...
"Ach, they're fine, bit waxy, drop some extra Virgin Olive oil in 'em; but i'm quite interested in getting a Wind Turbine.. can you see if P is back yet?"
(meanwhile waiting room is filling up & it's way past the end of his surgery time!!)
Honestly, this could only happen in Eye Land!!!!

Well, if he expects free consultancy when treating you, then of course your treatment should be free too...

Oh, Terri, that is priceless and how wonderful. The s here can barely bother to say hello, never mind have a conversation Getting to know each other should mean he has a better idea of you and your health, while here they wouldn't recognise you if you met them fifteen minutes later

Hi folks!
The Beast has been playing up the last few days, some sort of power struggle between google & Firefox i think, so apologies for no contact. Plus we've been pretty busy, for once there are several days of lovely warm sunny weather,so taken advantage of this & been doing lots of overdue outside stuff; painting, planting etc.
Plus rather ...er...distracted by stuff; anyone who is visiting, please bring a sickbag! I was always led to believe that the soppy stuff stopped after about 3 weeks; this is coming up to a year & seems to be getting more so...Wow!!!
(Which is not to say that we don't have our moments, we certainly do!)
Animals all seem to be fine, Hootoo donkey chased Edda yesterday, naughty boy; & Fritz caught his first , Yoda has been giving him lessons
It's really horrible watching torturing ; but my past experience seems to suggest it's pretty useless trying to rescue , they just die more slowly, plus we really do need to keep rodentlife at manageable levels & won't use poison or traps, at least this way the creature has a chance of escape, natural pest control.
'Nature: wild in tooth & claw' What are the views of 'you lot' on this?

Hi Terri
Sorry to hear that you are having problems with your computer but according to astrologers is that time of year with electronic equipment and communications go haywire because of mercury is going retrograde and will be lack that until the end of September.
My Dad said that I must understand animals are different from us but that does not mean we should not care for them.
EYE LAND!
zendevil Posted Sep 13, 2009
He's absolutely right, in my opinion.
When you consider what animals give us (food, clothing, companionship, guarding duties, pest control, means of transport etc) & what some humans do to them, it makes you want to puke.
By the way, P has (bless him!) created an actual official Invitation to the Bog Shindig; which i've hopefully managed to send to some of 'you lot' via a fancy button on gmail; please let me know if it worked!!!

all for your feedback re: the invites; plus big to the Mostest Prof for the card, which i got today.
This is really weird, P is in the process of constructing a cable, so we can each connect to internet at the same time, from different parts of the place, involved him crawling into attic spaces humans are not designed to enter & much tugging of wires.
So far, we've managed dual access, only thing is, cable ain't long enough, so he is around 3 feet away & we are communicating via gmail chat!!!!!!!!!!!
As to stuff, yes, they do seem to be much more into actually communicating here. I sent my last doc an email last night, 'cos i don't have email of the new one, they know each other well, obviously & asked him to pass my addy onto his mate, since i wasn't sure if it was unreadable between the scribbles...plus i want to invite him to the paarty, new Doc can't make it, but both have been very kind during my Hospital career, plus one was also in My Fair Lady Drama production.
**Hi Terri,
Nice to hear from you. I wasn't able to access your google Doc. I think
anyway it might be better for you to contact Mike independently of me.
Hope you are well and that the bleeding wasn't anything serious.
Best Wishes
Michael***
Awww....now, that's what i call a Health Service. There's a lot to be said for living in a small community.
P is even as we squeak sending invites to all manner of folks; but even if it's just me & him, Snaily, Aye Beewench & her lovely lads, P's lovely son & his GF & maybe a few neighbours, it just sorta makes me feel i am part of a family; both global & local.
Personally, i feel that is very important, especially if you don't have 'real' biological family. What do the rest of you feel?

Yes, Terri, having a "family" of friends is very important, indeed. I am glad we both benefit from a loving community. May your party be a warm and festive affair!
