[Note: Online dictinaries inform me that the word 'laude' can be pronounced either like 'loud, eh' or like 'lawed, eh'; the title of this post relies on the first kind of pronunciation, so if you prefer the second kind, well, too bad for you. ]
When I got my BA, about two years ago (that long, really?), my grade average was 91-point-something. I forget the exact number. Anyway, that's pretty good, but it wasn't good enough to have me sitting in the first rows during the graduation ceremony, along with all the cum-laude graduates. I didn't mind that... much. But of course there was that little pang of envy at those folks sitting in there at the front, with all their achievements and stuff.
Those last two years, however, I've had excellent grades quite consistently, and now my grade average is closer to 96 (not sure what it exactly is, since the online system isn't properly updated, but I know it's somewhere around 96). I am pretty sure this will get me to either magna-cum-laude or summa-cum-laude. This feels good.
(Also, it might help me get into a good PhD programme next year - see my post in the previous journal thread for more details: F1134023?thread=4969488&post=78339529#p78339529 )
So, I'm hoping. If I get to the front rows, this June, I'll be sure to let you know.

I admire your dedication, Lady P. I was a horribly lazy student and only did what I had to do to get a very basic BA. If I'd had your approach I might have got more out of the whole business.

I can be horribly lazy too, but at the bottom of it, I really do like all that Uni stuff. Not so much the literary-criticism-theory mumbo jumbo, although I can kinda pull it off when I need to, but the things that require library research are very fun. I found some absolutely lovely stuff, working on some of my papers. I once ran into an almanach (from Israel) from 1912, which had all sorts of really cool old stuff, like the train schedules between Jaffa and Jerusalem, or the days the post goes out to Europe, or a greeting for the Sultan's birthday (the area was under Othman rule back then). I loved it.

Hypothetically, I'm graduating with a BA soon.

There's been talk about becoming a male prostitute but I don't have the credentials for that. You have to have at least a master's in Leisure Studies for that.
I suppose I'll look at grad schools. After a period of looking no longer than the rest of my life, I'll have enough material to blackmail them into a free scholarship.

Ah, the gradschool search. All too familiar, I am afraid.
By the way, I actually met a guy who majored in Leisure Studies, back at camp some years ago. Nice guy. Pretty crazy. Anyway, I was pretty amused to find out that it existed as a subject to learn... apparently, most people are.
You planning on staying in Communications (that's what you were studying, isn't it?), or gonna try something more practical? I know a guy who knows a guy who teaches Ugaritic in NYU, if you're interested!
Hey Dragonfly! Great to see you here. I will email you one of the next few days, promise.
