"Hey, wait up! we're gonna need an engine to get anywhere serious in those! it'll take a few minutes...."
Engineers have got a small warp drive engine thing in a special enlarged escape pod. nerd42 begins linking all escape pods he can catch together to make a big break for it.
"hey, you guys on the gundecks, i'd get busy arming these things if I were you! lets not forget the enimies outside!"

*suggests hiding out floating around in the pods a few days, then hijacking an enemy space veichle, and flying it back to a civilized planet*

"ok the plan is, from my engineering point of view, we link all these escape pods together, and put up a sorta force shield around all these pods, a sort of air bubble, if you know what i mean, so we could work on fixing up the outside more on the fly, and i'll stay on the big enlarged pod in the back that's supplying the prepulsion, keeping that running. whoever's second in command takes the center pod, and keeps us all coordinated working together like, everybody else can stay on the outer pods to man the weapons in case anybody comes after us, and we'll make a break for it! My engineers are loading everything useful we can fit from engineering onto the escape veichle. i suggest we, uh...."
"... we rig the ship to blow up when enimies reach the bridge! what'dya say?"

[Gregg]Or just drive it on self destruct into their ship...

Ralph the Wonder Llama and André the dodo; Excrement Occurs Posted Nov 13, 2003
How about we put the self-destruct on timer and have it fly in the opposite direction from whereever we're going?

whoever's stupid enough to think they can navigate this thing, I want a course plotted for wherever we're going! I suggest going "away". The escape veichle is ready. We must now attend to whatever we are to do with the ship, and quickly. Then board at http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/F117850?thread=344958&post=4376705#p4376705 *shuts down most of the ship* There is only a little screen left on on the bridge, bearing the Starship Vigilance's epitaph: "It was Fun while it Lasted"

Okay, I'm outta here!

*installs a large red button*
The button says "Activate".
"whatever you do, never never never press the red button. it starts a ten second countdown for the self destruction of the ship. now let's blow this joint."
*takes a last look around the bridge, then attempts to exit dramatically, fails, and falls flat on face.*
"drat"

I wonder if, should the time arrive, wargamer comes back he'll be mad that we've blown up his ship

~gregg runs in and presses the button. Everything goes dark for a moment and then the sirens and red flashing lights come on. A countdown is shown on some screens. Gregg runs out again, to the launch bays~

I liked it in Star Trek III, when the Klingons beam aboard, and they're like: why do they have a speaking clock all the time? BOOOMM!!
