Ah, the 3n + 1 conjecture. It appears to be a popular subject around here. I'll leave you and Alexander to discuss it at a level I wouldn't probably understand!

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, I'm plodding along with the 3n+1 conjecture. There's no shortage of interesting properties of these least-residue trees.

Anything to assist less informed researchers. I have done a lot of maths, I like to encourage knowledge in the subject, and I would also like to see what other such people are doing here.

Hi Sasha and welcome to h2g2
The Maths Lab is fairly quiet these days, but there are a few occasional mathematicians who drop in from time to time.
One thing we do is write mathematics-themed entries for h2g2's Edited Guide (I've currently got one in Peer Review myself). Please feel free to join in!

The group's gone quiet in recent years, but I'm hopeful that a few old timers will return now the site has moved GTBacchus is the membership secretary.
I've decided to resurrect my project on Wallpaper Patterns this weekend, and I'm getting it ready for Peer Review. I'll post to the other thread when it goes in, and I hope some of the other mathematicians here can come and take a look.
