Thanks for that tip, since I'm going to have to beg, plead with and possibly bribe a friend in the UK to record them all for me, it'll be nice to know when to start. smiley - winkeye

And thanks to Gif pointing out the beautiful double entendre, the euphemism "torpedo bay" is now going to be a permanent part of my vocabulary. smiley - laugh

Psychocandy - "JFGI" ... never seen that before. Love it. Should be required teaching as part of the National Curriculum.

"Doctor Who writer Russell T Davies has suggested who he thinks should replace David Tennant as the next Time Lord.

In e-mails serialised in The Times newspaper, Davies said Russell Tovey, who appeared in Alan Bennett's play The History Boys, would fit the role.

The creator, who leaves the show next year as lead writer and executive producer, said he thought Tovey was "going to be huge" and is "amazing"."

Not suprisingly Tovey is gay (not that a gay actor shouldn't play the role just fairly predictable from RTD). He didn't exactly inpress me in his Dr Who role and it's going to be Moffats choice anyway(we hope).

Hopefully, RTD isn;t going to turn into a Putin.

I am also glad to see that Tennant quashed the JK Rowling idea

>>Not suprisingly Tovey is gay (not that a gay actor shouldn't play the role just fairly predictable from RTD).<<

Yes, because Christopher Ecclestone and David Tennant are both gay, as was Alan Davies in Bob and Rose, as were all the leads in Queer as Folk. Oh wait - of those 6, only one is actually gay. So in what way is it predictable for RTD to want/choose gay people for the lead roles in his shows?

I saw that and thought, "good thing RTD isn't in charge any more, because that lad is the wrong choice." I've not seem him in the History Boys, but he didn't particularly impress in Voyage of the Damned.

I did quantify what I said. RTD does use a lot of gay actors and behind the scenes gay folk in his productions and has done in Dr Who a lot.

I did not say that you did.

It wasn't meant to be an anti-gay comment - if you have seen my posts backing up gay people(oo er missus) you will see that I regularly and consistently challenge homophobia on the site.

The actual in context quote from the e-mail:

"From: Russell T .Davies To: Benjamin Cook
Tuesday June 26, 2007 23:13:50 GMT
A read-through with Kylie Minogue! Marvellous, isn't it? She's going to watch Last of the Time Lords on Saturday with David. Madder and madder! And we've cast Clive Swift as Mr Copper. That's brilliant! (Dennis Hopper, it turned out, isn't available for that many days.) And Geoffrey Palmer is Captain Hardaker, which is glorious. Also, Russell Tovey as Midshipman Frame, which is my favourite casting of the lot, because he's going to be huge, that man. He's amazing. I think I'd make him the Eleventh Doctor"

Looks a journo making a story out of an off-hand remark.

I take my predictable RTD back...a bit due to the context...smiley - tongueout.

I didn't take it as a homophobic comment - you've backed me up plenty of times against the malevolence from Down Under on that exact issue - it just seemed an excessively anti-RTD comment based on something he doesn't really do. I don't know about the behind the scenes staff, but most of the leads in his big shows are straight.

Even on QAF, most of the actors were straight - the scenes which courted the most controversy were between two straight guys.

Attack RTD because his plots are excessively soapy, because he seems to have a fondness for terrible actors/actresses, because of his fascination with the superficial blockbuster, because he tries to be Joss Whedon but just isn't quite talented enough, but not because he gives gay guys the leads in his shows, because he doesn't.

Sorry if it came across that I was accusing you of something I know full well that you're not smiley - ok

Have heard very good things about History Boys, but I've never really liked the theatre (too much sitting still) so haven't gone to see it myself. There is a film of it out on DVD which I might pick up sometime.

I've never seen the play but I really liked the film. I'd highly recommend it, Bouncy (I may call you Bouncy, mayn't I?)

I've been getting Mr Tovey mixed up with Danny Dyer! Are they similar or is it just me? smiley - erm

Not that it matters. The History Boys film stars (the brilliant IMO)Richard Griffiths, Frances De La Tour, (is it Russell?) Tovey, the guy who wrote Gavin & Stacey, the guy who played Gavin in Gavin & Stacey (I think smiley - erm) and other people.

Anyway... it's fantastic smiley - ok
