Fair enough, it's been a while. But all that RTD/gay stuff....? Think I kinda got lost.

The Sarah Jane Adventures start again soon. I'm seriously considering watching them to make up for the lack of Who!

I actually spent 15 minutes trying to find that posting until I realized it was a joke.

Then *I* spit water through my nose.

Series 2 of the Sarah Jane Adventures starts on Monday 29th September at 4.35 BBC1 with episode 2 on CBBC at 5.15 for those who are interested.

The events of the last series got a passing nod from one of the Docs comments in the last Who series so you'll all have to watch it now (yes you will, you know you will smiley - evilgrin). For those who haven't seen the Sarah Jane Adventures before, they're not as bad as you might think.smiley - tardis

PS. See page 8/9 of the new Radio Times to find out which old Dr Who favourite is guesting in one of the later episodes!

OK, I've been watching Series 4 now (thanks to a friend who sent me one she did on her recorder) and watched Silence in the Library/ Forest of the Dead last night. Good episodes.

I will say that I don't like the idea of River Song as a possible companion. I've read some speculation on various forums that she might be his mother, and I could deal with that, if it meant she only showed up in one more episode (maybe two). Her character just wasn't that interesting, beyond the "mystery" surrounding their connection.

Only four more episodes and I'll at least be caught up on most of the newer stuff to follow this discussion a bit better. We still have nearly 50 DVDs to go before we get to the Eccleston episodes. smiley - bigeyes

Ahh p-c, but she was so much more interesting than just the mysteries surrounding her, she was strong and capable and independent, unlike the other companions we've seen. Donna could hold an episode on her own, but there's no way Martha or Rose could have.

I know a lot of fans have been up in arms because of the suggestion they were/will be married, but River would have provided the Doctor with something closer to an equal - it wouldn't be soppy, teenage love, but a proper, adult relationship.

Sorry, I did really like River Song. If nothing else I wouldn't have read the Time Traveller's Wife if it wasn't for those episodes, and that was a tremendous book.

I liked these episodes, but I didn't care for the Time Traveler's Wife. But I digress. smiley - winkeye

And I don't suppose it helps that I simply cannot stand the actress who played the River Song character. Or that the name is so stupid.

I'll agree that I like strong, capable companions- I really liked Sarah Jane and Leela- but I don't agree that Martha wasn't a strong, capable character. (And I don't blame Rose for being soppy- she was only 19! I'd have fallen in love with him at that age myself!)

She might be back too. Though dunno how muvch of the story they're gonna reveal too soon though. Might be a theme they'll put on the shelf for a bit and bring it back so the Doc's a bit older and there's not so much talk.

Got a copy of issue 400 of DWM. There's lots of good stuff including interview with RTD.

One quote by Steven Moffat really seemed to sum up how he writes ...

"Doctor Who is a fairy. I don't mean it's like a fairy tale, I mean it is a fairy tale. It's like all the dark and strange myths we invent to tell our children, in ways they'll understand, that the world around them isn't always safe, and there are people out there who might want to harm them. Fairy tales are metaphors for the dangers and seductions that lurk away from the path. Look at me, I'm 46 and I still talk about the world in fairy tale language. Maybe I never learned another way.

So ... Doctor Who is a children's programme only in the sense that it is a fairy tale. And fairy tales are for children, only in the sense that they are more important to them. I didn't mean our show is a cartoon - it isn't and it can never be. It's a huge, dangerous, thrilling myth."

I see that according to the Radio Times that the Brigader will be making an appearance in Sara Jane Adventures. Is this paving the way for a Dr Who appearance in the specials or next series?

Dr Who

I'd read somewhere (I'll try to find the article again later today when I have a spare moment) that RTD wanted to limit the appearance of the Doctor in the Sarah Jane Adventures but can't recall why...

Incidentally, has anyone seen Sarah Jane Adventures, and are they worth watching at all? I like Sarah and I love K-9 but I don't want to get sucked into yet another long-running TV program unless it's something really good.

well that was the RTD thing about the spin offs - characters from the spin offs could appear in Doctor Who, but the Doctor himself would not explicitly appear in any of them.
