A friend of mine likened the Cyber-King to the Mecha-Streisand in South Park, adding that it could only be defeated by Robert Smith from The Cure

Listening to the review of the newspapers on Wednesday morning, I thought I heard them say that BBC chiefs had wanted the next doctor to be played by a black actor, but both their choices had turned down the role. But looking around the web, I couldn't find anything about it. Anyone know the 'truth'?

only those on the board who made the decision. There's lots of conspiracy theories about the choice and I suspect the only ones who know, and will probably ever know, are those who made the decision.
PersonallyI think Moffat et al had the final word and they did what they said they did - they cast the person they felt most suited the role. They could be lying but why suppose that?

Michelle Ryan as a companion, anyone?

My instinctive reaction to the words 'ex-Eastenders star' is to wince and back away. That may be unfair though, as I've not really seen her in action. Wasn't Anna Friel originally in one of the British soaps? She was great in what I saw of Pushing Daisies, and I would welcome any time she spent on my TV screen under almost any circumstances.

I think if the Doctor is going to loom so young, they need older companions, someone Donna's age would be perfect. And it needs to be companions plural and they can't have any hint of fancying the Doctor.

Michelle Ryan was pretty good in Jekyll, (never sure if I'm spelling that right!) On the whole though I could live without her pouting at the camera!

Fully agree. DocWho has already been too full of shouty cockneys in its new incarnation as it is.

Brookside in the early 1990s. Lesbian kiss shocker. I believe, although I try to not to go near soaps.

"I think if the Doctor is going to loom so young..."
I know it's a typo, but this brings very strange images to mind. For instance, I have this image of the photo I've seen of Matt Smith 'looming' forward from a dark television screen.

"No ta. She was dreadful in the Bionic Woman remake."
I think you'll find that was because of the incredibly crap script/plot/directing and the fact that the American's didn't like 'A British soap star taking the lead in an American classic'
She was ok as Nimue in Merlin

tabloid source: check
complete ignorance of how Doctor Who companions work: check
('she's of the right age to be the companion to the new Doctor')
Ignorance of existing Doctor Who announcements about the companion: check
(RTD has already stated we get to see the Doctor without a companion)
Which isn't to say it can't be right but, um, pass the salt cellar will you?

Without a companion for the specials, not for when Matt Smith starts.
Dr Who.
van-smeiter Posted Jan 20, 2009
For the specials he'll have one-off companions (including, according to the rumours, an old lady.) I was led to believe that the schedule for the specials will be easter, xmas day, NY eve and NY day. I noticed that the end of the 11th Doctor confidential said that the 11th Doctor would be coming spring 2010 (normal starting time for a new season) which makes me wonder if the regeneration will be either non-existent (cf Eccleston) or in the style of Baker/McCoy or McCoy/McGann?
Michelle Ryan would probably be a good companion but I'd like to see a male companion or multiple companions.

Somehow in my mind the word 'companion' got replaced there.

Good point Xan, should have known that as I've said it myself often enough!
