Even if the film had been quite popular here I might not have seen it- I don't watch a lot of the crap that hits the theaters (aside from fantasy/ SF, I tend to stick to foreign, cult and art films), and avoid remakes like the plague. And I'd definitely avoid anything involving the Bionic Woman. smiley - laugh

But having read the article Ictoan linked to and a bit more about her, I sure hope her appearance is an insolated incident; I share the opinion that with a very young Doctor, we should see "older" companions. Bringing along a young female introduces too much risk of silly "romantic" mooning and fawning, and Buffy-eque teeny-bopper nonsense. That would be nauseating.

Ah- that'd be why I never heard of it before.

Possibly minor spoiler about the Easter special...though judging by the plot (which has now had to be re-written), I doubt Lee Evans will be playing it straight.

Also, it seems they have actually filmed outside the UK.

That's a bit of an upgrade ... they used to film in deserted quarrys in the middle of Dorset ... now they just go to deserts ...

If they're only filming four episodes, presumably the budget stretches a bit further!

Even better, since Who is now pretty much a BBC flagship, I should think it will get whatever counts this year as a hefty budget.

When are these four episodes, then? I heard Easter, Christmas and New Year, but that's only... um... hang on, I can do this... three.

I think there's three over the xmas/new year period. Could be wrong though.

as for outside uk - isn't one supposed to be being filmed in the us? Or was that just meeja speculation?

Well, the last Christmas special was the first of them. I'm pretty sure they're doing one at Easter and another this Christmas. The last might be New Year, or it might be plonked somewhere in between.

"Well, the last Christmas special was the first of them."

Except it wasn't.

- Planet of the Dead is the first of four Doctor Who Specials which will air in 2009.

- Noma Dumezweni who returns as Captain Erisa Magambo - last seen helping Rose and Donna save the world in Turn Left.

- The bottom of the Who site says next episode ... Planet of the Dead - Easter, BBC One.

I'm not sure how accurate "the first of four Doctor Who Specials which will air in 2009" from the bbc page is but it is from the bbc page smiley - erm. I've already said this but my understanding is that the specials will be broadcast at Easter 09, Christmas Day 09, New Year's Eve 09 and New Year's Day 10. It was also interesting that, at the end of the DW Confidential that introduced the 11th Doctor, there was a caption "THE ELEVENTH DOCTOR ARRIVING SPRING 2010"; how does the regeneration fit into the scheduling of the specials and series 5?

Also, should we not have spoiler thread for the specials?

Theres definately at least 3 in 2009, one at easter one at christmas and assumably one in between somewhere...

Well easter would be the traditional kick-off for the season and the bbc has confirmed a special for then. The bbc-america guy let the cat out of the bag about Torchwood by saying that it'll be broadcast in the states a few hours after in the UK in late summer. I'm thinking that 'Torchwood week' on bbc1 will fill in for the traditional Who season climax. And then we're left waiting until christmas. The crumb of comfort comes from the fact that christmas/new year will be very exciting with three specials in ten days. How the regeneration happens is also well worth the wait (unless it's like Baker/McCoysmiley - winkeye.)

Probably makes good sense.

It is done.

My understanding was that these specials are over 2009 becasue that's how long Tennant is contracted for. By extension, the regeneration will happen either *right* at the end of the last special with the new Doctor only properly seen in the series, or will happen right at the start of the series.

Dr Who.

Alfster

I think he will regenerate at the end of the last special. It gives a hook to the next series and the next Dr. Most people will be expecting that so not doing it would let people down.

Dr Who.

Post 2239

Giford

It seems usual to have the regen at the end of the previous Doctor's run - the big exceptions being the two involving McCoy, where circumstances intervened each time.

Is it because I'm looking for faults, or is Matt Smith the weakest actor in the cast of Moses Jones?
