I said when Anhanga raised similar concerns about Create being fundamentally uncreative (and also a bit OTT in tone) that that gave me the opening to pontificate at length about what Create is (supposed to be) all about. Then I got a bit distracted. Still, does anybody mind if I do the show right here?

(This may take a little while. When I say pontificate, I do mean it...)

I agree with Effers' post 24. I don't need Entertainment Organisers - leave that sort of infantalising, patronising stuff to Maplin's - or Butlin's. If anyone feels the need to be 'organised' then well and good. But to me it spoils the h2g2 site somewhat.
How did we ever manage without them before?
Cue the usual suspects to take unnecessary umbrage.

Do what ever steps you want, if you have cleared them with the pontiff

I don't understand post #47
None of the 'activities' are compulsory, it's like disagreeing with gay weddings because we never had them before. They're not compulsory so if you don't want to participate in them the best advice I could give to anyone is don't. Just keep doing whatever it is you're doing.

Nobody needs to take part in Create if it isn't their cup of tea. I think it is doing a great job in encouraging writing. It is aimed mainly at new members, but appeals to long-standing members like me, too.

*takes uncessary umbridge*
*takes it back to the shop and asks for a re-fund*
There's nothing wrong with feedback, there's nothing wrong with saying that you don't like something.
In fact I'd rather you said you didn't like it instead of leaving t he site.
It's just easier for us to read if it's said, er, in a constructive way. Suggestions about what you'd like to see are good as well.

Calling it 'Destroy' is IRONIC.
Do people here seriously think I have a destructive motive towards New h2g2?
No. I want us to be as *inclusive* as possible.
As wide ranging and rich as the kind of place I live in, in real life.
It's a brilliant community.
And I'm sure lots of us live or have lived in all kinds of communities.
We bring that to the PARTY.
I'm learning as much as you guys are about what new h2g2 might be..

I suddenly see we can have all these different things. So we don't need to fight each other. (unless that turns you on ...where the hell is 2legs? Having sex probably )

OK, so some people don't like games, competitions and such activities. The easy solution is don't go there.
Some find it lots of fun, and get writing. Excellent, share and enjoy.
Others again prefer to keep writing lots of entries for the edited guide. Brilliant, keep it up, help others to do the same.
Certain people don't write, but do wonders in the review forum - fantastic, we need them too.
You don't have to participate in things you don't like. No one is forcing you! Contribute where you want, enjoy the things you like, be enthusiastic, because it is contagious.
I think it was Robert Heinlein who remarked that very few people say "please stop me from doing things that are bad for me", but many say "you should stop doing things that I think is wrong". Please let us be people that share enthusiasm for what we like, do more of it and improve the world, one happy thing at the time.

But yes, with that notable exception I completely agree with you

"None of the 'activities' are compulsory,"
They aren't compulsory in holiday camps, either.
It's good that we're umbrage-free so far. I was basing my prediction on another notorious recent thread which featured Effers.
Each to her/his own. Agreed. Let friendship be our friend.....
