Traveller in Time
"That is nearly like the example thread I gave on page one. The Hosts sometimes do forget to post the 'last post', perhaps as after the thread is closed you can not anymore. "

although presumably, given Jim's posting, the reasoning on H2G2 would mean that my thread was only closed (if at all) during elections and not just shut off like the one you reference has been.

Censorship? No. How can preventing anyone from posting to one conversation while leaving it on full view and allowing the participants to begin another conversation about the same subject be censorship?

I'm just hoping that it will mean Jim Lynn can finally kill off some of those pointless thingite threads !?

Actually, given the server problems when these widely subscribed-to announcements are made, any announcement ought to be shut down pretty much as soon as it has been posted. We'd all still see it, but wouldn't be able to post here.

I wouldn't say that they called me up to comment on the Charles Kennedy story on the morning that he resigned. They were looking for a balanced opinion and when last they'd checked I was that.

That's actually one of the things we've considered, Kelli, as the announcements thread is very heavily subscribed. What we'll probably do is make announcements, close the thread and put a link to a new discussion elsewhere.

Like an "announcements page" - a link sent to everyone - but only to read -

"or possibly to divert conversations to relevant discussions elsewhere"
How much so? I'd hate to think of conversations getting closed because they go "off topic" when the key word is conversation which leads on from on subject to the next: Discussion/debate.

Posts 53 and 56.
Having linked to announcement conversations from the announcement page - A639056 and made a request to stick to the point. it seems pointless divert them somewhere else.
Just stop/suspend them if necessary.

Looks to me like there's something someone doesn't want someone else to see. Maybe there should be a law against people suing people who write things on messageboards. (Whoever someone is, probably a powerful person within BBC) have I said too much? You all know I'm not from the BBC.
Key: Complain about this post
