I congratulate u for initiating steps in this direction.Although it is a delayed step it is welcome. We hope to benefit a lot. More research should be made in the direction of making conversations worthwhile as by active interaction of the editors with the participants.
All the best.

Sorry, folks. We did say that we'd lock announcement threads from now on, and I forgot. Please divert any discussions you fancy having to the page given in the announcement. < A10482248 >
Only for the [Reply] button. Well we need something to do . . .
Oh, and watch those big friendly letters on the top
THIS THREAD HAS BEEN CLOSED
Not this thread. "

Well, we could carry on having all those server errors if you like, but this is just one way to avert them by reducing the load on heavily-subscribed pages.
Your choice.
Actually, I fibbed, it's not - we're doing this anyway .

Does closing the conversation actually remove it from the 'My Conversations' window? I can't find it in mine any more - closing announcements is not good if it means they don't pop up on your list - people that were not online at the time will miss them.
I'm using plain BTW.

The local election one is closed but it is still on My Conversations list.

It has definitely gone from mine - did you post to the thread Tony?

Tony2Times/Prof. Chaos Posted Mar 30, 2006
Nope it was closed before I even saw the first post, all of it happened while I was offline.

It's not there on mine either, and I'm in Plain as well. Mind you, the conversations list in Plain has been well dodgy ever since the first round of -1 posts and the like.

The profanity one hasn't vanished, but I'd posted to that.
Oi! Slopey sorts! Do you know if there is any reason why yesterday's announcement has gone from my (and Kerr's) space/conversations? Is it something to do with them being started and closed on the same day?

You can call me TC Posted Mar 30, 2006
Jimster posted to the unintelligible one 5 hours ago to say that it was closed, but there's still a "reply" button, which I pressed (as one does) and I got a normal reply window. I didn't dare write anything in it and try to post, though - perhaps then I would have got a "Do not touch this button again" message....

I tried to post 'test' there You just get the post to a conversation screen again with nothing underneath, and the post doesn't get on to the thread.
