I hope you all realise the magnitude of this decision. I am speechless with relief and just bursting with the sense of freedom and - well, just overjoyed........
Hold it Marijn - we don't want to push them too hard. Languages will come back.......
*wonders if all the old conversations will just suddenly appear on THE DAY*

I think a toast may well be proposed by the Committee when we hold the next meeting of the FC&MS&SC, you know, the next one you can't get too
to check the latest installment of the licence fee's on the bank statement

Really, really good to know this, and big thanks to Peta for putting up with shots from both sides in the immediately post-Rupert days. We are sorry we shouted at you, Peta.
If Perry is less appropriate as an actual name, how about drinking a toast of perry to Gladys?

I'd like to start by saying
Secondly, minor party starts now at the Zaphodista page A520769. Come tell us how we should reorganize the main Zaphodista page into a museum page, slated to go into effect on the last day of the Peer Moderation Pilot.
[Re: languages other than English. I don't want to say anything negative or controversial here, because it should be a time for celebrating. But if everyone behaves during the Peer Moderation test, then it seems like moderating languages other than English will probably cease to be an issue. Members of the community won't care if other languages are written here, and naughty things that are written will eventually be reported by other speakers of that language. If we humo(u)r them a little while longer, I think other languages will simply be reactively moderated by speakers of those languages. It's like if a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? If someone writes a naughty word in Swahili, and there's no one else on h2g2 who knows how to read Swahili, has any damage been done? As soon as an offended reader of Swahili reports the problem, then the problem will be taken care of.]
Please resume partying:

PS - I vote for Glasnost or Gladys. It's an odd name, but captures the feeling. And since when was anything too odd for h2g2? "Glasnost" would be extra ironic, because it's a Russian word and technically ought to be moderated (except that most adults who speak English know the word).

Thanks Ben! We were all aiming in the same direction, we all had the same goals and we got there in the end, that's what important! Thanks for sticking with it!

I would just like to say thank you to the people who chose to trust the community on this. It /is/ a huge amount of trust that they've taken in allowing this and I hope that, like other aspects of h2g2 and the DNA engine it pays dividends.

Hi Subcom!
The party on the Zaphodistas page sounds totally appropriate! I'll be delighted to come and share a virtual glass with you, if it's okay with you!
Languages, yes! Come and join the conversations about this on the Hub! You're spot on though on your analysis, but as you've seen and accurately observed, we have to take things one step at a time. It's all very much going in the right direction though!

Just read the Petition for greater freedom on h2g2... there's only the issue of adding our own pics to the site left.
So today's announcement is both a victory of the "freedom fighters" and the Italics who ever wanted pre-moderation.

to all concerned
I'm curious to know if or how this will affect the Lets Parler Franglais thread ( F19585?thread=190857 ), which began rather tentatively in the style of a column by the same name in Punch magazine (gramatically poor French littered with lots of English )
I very much doubt whether any contributing researchers would ever want to use it as a forum for anything other than frivolous *fun*, which is somehow diminished by the translation of each and every line

Peta, you're always welcome in Zaphodista territory. Someone else picked up your goo beret a while ago, but we'd be delighted to have you help us celebrate. We wouldn't have a reason to celebrate right now without effort from you and Mark to get this pilot project started.
