oh dear. is it just me,my personal view of nostradamus is one of disbelife,i belive that he did write the book and others read it to get big ideas on how to make them come true.realy think about it in depth and read carefully.some one in a high place or some one whom has the funds to make his so called predictions come true will do if they are sick enough.
by his predictions we should all be dead now.i dont think that anyone has the power to completley obliterate the world.terrorism will be and most certainly should be irradicated completely how is the question.i hope this makes sence to you.i am not sure as no one else is how all this will end but i wish for all to unite in peace and be happy.my heart goes out to all whom has lost there loved ones no matter how it has happened.

Hello there
you will be pleased to hear this is a hoax. I got the message too yesterday and immediately smelt a rat. I have never heard this before! How convenient, I thought.
Nostradamus's predictions were structured as quatrains: 4 lines. This one seems wo be a mixture of 2 quatrains Nostradamus wrote.
They are:
-
At forty-five degrees, the sky will burn,
Fire approaches the great new city,
Immediately a huge, scattered flame leaps up
When they want to have verification from the Normans.
The year 1999, seventh month, [or simply "sept"]
From the sky will come a great King of Terror.
To bring back to life the great King of the Mongols,
Before and after Mars to reign by good luck.
A friend of mine suggests that the reference to 'the next war being bigger' has nothing to do with Nostradamus, probably more to do
with Einstein's famous quote about WW4 being fought with sticks and stones.
If you wish to read more about Urban Myths and Legends and hoaxes, then visit about.com (http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/weekly/aa091101b.htm)
Its also worth bearing in mind that anything can be read into Nostrasamus predictions including the return of Mrs Thatcher to power and odd stuff like that,
cheers,
Lenny

Sorry, but this text is a sick hoax. Why someone would create such rubbish to scare people is beyond me.

As originator I apologise for any offense. It certainly wasn't the intention to offend people, and now, having had a few of the aforementioned e-mails, I now realise the prediction/prophecy thing is doing the rounds. If you read the original post, you'll see that I did wonder whether to post it or not. What I didn't say is that I believed it, or indeed any of the predictions Nostradamus made.
I certainly question and deny the claim that we are having a "jerk off" about recent events. The initial post was meant to open a thread about Nostradamus to discuss what people thought, had they heard it, was it real, was it hoax etc. I think the mis-translated prediction is unfortunate, but care needs to be taken when accusatory remarks are posted.

Spookybuz -
Not your fault, you were just passing the information on. (I've received the email from 3 different people today.) I would take things like this with a bag of salt, nevermind a pinch. A lot of people have been scared by the prediction so we all need to spread the word that it is NOT accurate before it makes more rounds on the internet/email.

Just be warned, all the URLs will be removed from the conversations (part of the rules, no non bbc URLs in forums).
I for one am glad of this forum as it may help people stop blindly sending round emails of this sort and make them think a little before hitting the send button (doubt it but you can hope).

what absolute twaddle, you could take any works and their contents, juggle the context and the formatting and come up with this, completly agree with Researcher 184541.virtually every line is taken from difrent centuries within nostradamus's predictions its not a quote.
the prdictions of jim morrison read in to them what you wish
The killer awoke before dawn
There's danger on the edge of town
Driver, where you taken' us I live downtown
Then he Paid a visit to his brother
No one here gets out alive
this is the end, of every thing that stands.
Nothing left to do but run, run, run
dug our treasures here yet we still recall the time we cried
west is the best.
To the East, to meet the Czar
Taken from noumourous songs and totaly miss quoted....as nostrodamus often is.took me 5 mins I'm sure with a little time I could do much better, come on get on with the real issues.

This email was actually fabricated by a Canadian student in 1998 to show what a load of bunk Nostradamus is. It was not intended to deride the current atrocities in any way, although it has mutated slightly from the original form as it was sent by email.

WeS Posted Sep 13, 2001
Having read some Nostradamus quotes from the few sites still running on the subject is seems that posting 1 is a compression of a few quotes with quite alot of details that don't appear in Nostradamus' books (I couldn't find a mention of "twin brothers" or "York").

Earthman Posted Sep 13, 2001
Going back to the original 'prophecy' in this thread... that and the fact that half that quotation (the twin brothers, the fortress and the great leader bits) are actually attributed to one Neil Marshall of Canada sometime in the 1990's as an example of a made-up vague 'prophecy' that will sooner or later be shoehorned into a real event.
Nostradamus made a prediction about seven months into 1999, which mentioned the King of Terror (or at least that is the common English translation). And no, I didn't notice him either.
He never mentioned collapses in York as far as I know.

Lonnytunes - Winter Is Here Posted Sep 13, 2001
Earlier today this was sent to a mailing list I belong to
Nostradamus' prediction on WW3:
"In the year of the new century and nine months,
From the sky will come a great King of Terror...
The sky will burn at forty-five degrees.
Fire approaches the great new city..."
"In the city of york there will be a great
collapse, 2 twin brothers torn apart by chaos
while the fortress falls the great leader will
succumb third big war will begin when the
big city is burning"
- NOSTRADAMUS
He said this will be bigger than the previous two. 2001 is the first year of the new century and this is the 9th month. New York is located at the 41st degree Latitude.
Michel de Nostredame (1503 - 1566) now mainly known as Nostradamus was a real bloke. A physician in France who was a Jew who converted
to Christianity when young. Yes he is supposed to have predicted his own death calling the priest for the last rites the night before.
The nearest relavent quatrains (and translations I found at the website as well) are reproduced below. Now there seems to be nothing about great leaders succumbing and third great wars in what I can find. If you have a better translation or know where the realavent bits of his prophecy can be found, please share them with us all.
C10, 72
L'an mil neuf cens nonante neuf sept mois,
Du ciel viendra vn grand Roy d'effrayeur:
Resusciter le grand Roy d'Angolmois,
Auant apres Mars regner par bon heur.
TR:
The year 1999, seventh month,
From the sky will come a great King of Terror:
To bring back to life the great King of the Mongols,
Before and after Mars to reign by good luck.
C6, 97
Cinq & quarante degrez ciel bruslera
Feu approcher de la grand cité neuue
Instant grand flamme esparse sautera
Quand on voudra des Normans faire preuue.
TR:
At forty-five degrees the sky will burn,
Fire to approach the great new city:
In an instant a great scattered flame will leap up,
When one will want to demand proof of the Normans.
C1, 87
Ennosigee feu du centre de terre,
Fera trembler autour de cité neuue
Deux grâds rochers long têps feront la guerre,
Puis Arethuse rougira nouueau fleuue.
TR
Earthshaking fire from the centre of the earth
will cause tremors around the New City.
Two great rocks will war for a long time,
then Arethusa will redden a new river
In short, the predictions are a bit like the bible. Pick out the bits that fit your point-of-view and ignore the rest

There was a guy on the news this morning from the Nostradamus society...he said some interesting things - think of them what you will
*The followers of Nostrodamus's works believe in three Anti-Christs; Napoleon was one, Hitler was another, and someone of Muslim descent is to be the third.
*In his works, when he refers to the "New" city, it's either New York or America, depending on whether he's talking big-picture or little-picture.
*There will be a war, it will start slowly, and it will be between the followers of this third anti-Christ and the 'Christian' countries of the wolrd - it will last for 27 years, and the 'Christian' countries will be victorious.
This is what the guy said, anyway

In keeping with the topic of stupid spam claiming dubious connections with Tuesday's events, here's an excerpt from something I received yesterday:
If you don't have the fonts Webdings and Wingdings installed then this won't work
1. Open a word processor document.
2. Type in NYC in caps, and then highlight it.
3. Change the font to Webdings. (weird)
4. Then change the font to Wingdings. (weirder)
Spooky, huh?

Richie B Posted Sep 17, 2001
The second part of the text quoted which mentions the City of York is a hoax and wasn't written by Nostradamus. It has been circulating the internet since last week.
Nostradamus spent a lot of time looking into flames, and I think he was a bit of nutter.
His texts have been translated from an older form of French and can be interpreted to predict anything you want. If he was so good why didn't anyone mention anything before Tuesday.
Personally I think that the text predicts England beating Germany 5 - 1 just as accurately. Didn't Gerrard score with an absolute scorcher in the 45th minute (degree).

Note to all:
The definitive debunking disclaimer to this so-called Nostradamus prophecy. According to the email that is circling the Net, he made this prediction in 1654. Amazing, since he died in 1566.
Maybe he was like L. Ron Hubbard (truly bad science-fiction author that also wrote Dianetics and founded the Church of Scientology). He died , I think, ten years ago and new books were still being published after his death.

Concerning the Nostrodamus 'prediction' and Loony's translation of the relevant quatrains; I'd just like to say, perhaps the new city that he was talking about was in fact the new city of Wolverhampton, UK.
Two rocks will war for a long time - I agree, England's pasting of Germany - a beautiful game!
King of Terror - That is quite obviously the return of Sharon to Eastenders. What's gender between friends

Nostradamus prophecies are bunkum.
all of them.
The man was almost certainly a con-man, milking patrons for whatever money he could get to continue with his other work. He did this stuff as a sideline.
