Have you got a link for the full Oscar listings or anything? That's the kind of thing I like to print out and stick on my wall.
And why has everything gone alabaster?

hey Bob.. part of H2G2's new "DNA" set up is that the skin (alabaster and classic goo) is in the address... if you want classic goo, make sure it says ......./h2g2/classic/A624322 (or whatever) May not be your problem, but it had me confused for a while
I've been struck with a brilliant idea!! I think the Hot Spot needs a new room... but I can't decide which name to give it. The Prancing Pony or the Green Dragon any opinions?

Sounds good to me. I'm reading 'Bored of the Rings' at the moment, and it's brilliant! Anyone else?

Is that the one with D***o B****r and whatnot. I leafed through it once, and it seemed like a bunch of cheap infantile mockery. One could do a much better satire with such rich source material.

The bit at the end describing Sorhed's hordes is superb. I like the 'the noise of the army could have woken the dead, if they were not bringing up the rear' (paraphrase). And you have to bear in mind that it was written well over thirty years ago. I gather that some parts of it were satire then, but just make less sense now, when the names are not familiar.

Yes, I have a copy of Bored.... bought it at the same time I got THHGTTG Very amusing, which is difficult when making fun of a classic!
Attention Everyone!! The Prancing Pony is now open, and a special invite is extended to everyone in this thread to come and try it out before I publicize So please show and... be nice to Barliman

I wondered about Narsil/Anduril too - I guess Arwen will turn up & give it to Aragaorn in next movie.
Talking of swords - Gandalf's sword (Glamdring) should glow around orcs like sting. However in Moria scenes it doesn't - one missed by Mr Jackson I guess.
Overall - great scenery, but I found changes to plot/scenes/speaches very anonoying - some seemed arbitary (i.e. changes that neither reduced length or inporved clarity - e.g. whole Rivendell sequence).
BTW according to interview with PJ in SFX the 'Scouring of the Shire' will not be at the end of #3- I guess it stop at the coronation.

It will actually end with the departure for the undying lands. They'll just skip the scouring of the sire. It makes sense. You can't have three films leading to a huge climax like that and then add on an episodic scuffle at the end.

Aren't they goblins in Moria, hence why Glamfring didn't glow?

Tolkien intermixed Goblins and Orcs...they are the same. That does make The Hobbit confusing to some people, as they are referred to as goblins the whole time and Sting and Glamdring both glitter, while in LOTR, they glitter around orcs. Honestly, I expected editors to one day change goblins to orcs in The Hobbit, but they haven't
