There is one thing I have yet to hear anyone comment on..... Sauron. What do you think about the way they accomplished him?

Sauron was v gud, liked the way he was just knocked them all out of the way! (bytheway, where was Gil-galad in all that?)...but he did look a bit like the evil baddy from some kids tv show! (soz all!)

At the start, I thought he looked just a bit pudgy! I thought it was a bit silly how they did the battle. It was like:
'They were fighting and looked just on the edge of defeat.'
'Then something happened, and they were just on the edge of victory.'
'Then something else happened, and suddenly they were about to lose again.'
I sense some hyperbole there.

Also, the way Sauron was really breathing down Frodo's neck every time he put on the ring. I always thought it was more useful than that. Apart from that, they captured his malice and overawing power, togehter with his physical difficulties, very well.

you know, when i first read the books, i sort of imagined Sauron as the evil from "The Time Bandits", only much, much worse...

Sauron was really formidable, I liked the way he was portrayed - it showed the heroism of those that fought him too.

Now Gollum _was_ spot-on! I don't think you can improve on him so far. It was even good enough to make up for the fact that he shouldn't even be in this film. I just hope they can keep it up in the next film. And, perhaps, make it a bit easier to hear what he's saying. There are some pretty big conversations on the way to Mt. Doom.

they heard him in Moria, so he was there in the book. & in film only Frodo& Gandalf saw him dint they? or did they? smiley - erm if he was jus in the background thats spot on correct!

Wonderful: Gollum was the creature Bilbo got the ring from in the first place. he pops up in Moria when Frodo & Gandalf have the 'pity?' conversation

I was really impressed with Gollum too! Much better than that horrid cartoon creature...

And omy, I was wondering about Gil-Galad too (post 63)... I guess he wasn't important enough smiley - smiley

Plato: smiley - laugh I suppose Sauron is quite a bit like that (only a bit less silly)

Gollum was horribly good. Stupendous animation work there.

mctrmt...

...mum?...dad?

Gollum- goood. Galadriel- well, too cold and aloof. And what about her gifts to the fellowship? What about the dirt that ends up figuring so much at the end of Return of the King?
Anyway, I didn't much care for the "well, off you go now! There they go, little fellas," ending of the movie (much prefer the "what the--?! where the--?!" ending of the book).
Blah blah blah.
Of course, I would see it again. And, likely, again. Because I have some twisted secret hope that the next time I see it, it will magically be The Two Towers. What the--?!

In the book, the 'pity' conversation between Frodo and Gandalf is at Bag End in the Shire, when Gandalf explains what the Ring is. In Moria, Frodo knows something is following them, and some of the others (can't remember which ones) but he doesn't work out that it's Gollum until quite a bit later. I'm not going to complain, though. The changes took nothing away from the film.

they missed out a chunk of the 'pity' talk 2 which i feel was a shame. they missed out that Bilbo was so little changed by the ring & was able to pass it on in the end (has been the ONLY person ever 2 pass it on) cuz his ownership begaun with pity, not to strike without need..etc i feel that was significant.
but no major complaints here. jus picking at lose threads, y'know smiley - smiley
