I don't think anyone so far has said that the film was rubbish, only that it could be improved. I enjoyed it enough to see it twice, and the video will certainly be on next year's Christmas list.

Oh, I have no problems with Orlando Bloom's acting... I think he played his part very well, as did almost all the characters! It was just the way the part was written..not quite how I interpreted Legolas smiley - smiley

I know I'm on the side of *the masses* here, but I really liked the interpretation of legolas. Oh well.

It looked fine to me. But then, I wasn't really paying much attention to Legolas. He seemed just a bit peripheral, though

It's strange, but all the people I've talked to, mostly non-readers, named Legolas as their favourite in the Fellowship. I've overheard children trying to remember his name "That one, Nicolas? He was my favorite."

Gandalf was really good, I like the part he played and how he played it. The whole wise but fun character has great appeal, and his selflessness is to be admired.

O and to the comment about women liking him not being the point it is at least half the point. I am surounded by all of the "Legolasis so fit" talk all the time - I have 3 (female) friends who would marry me if I looked like him + then to top it all off I now have a male friend who thinks he is wonderful. I don't think I have met a woman who does not really admire Legolas.

I would have to vote for Boromir... though he was my least favorite character in the book, his part in the movie was phenomenal! I just hope that Aragorn's character really comes out in the next two movies...
hey, on a side note, has anyone seen any pics of the ents? just curious...

I vote for Boromir as well. A brilliant, soulful performance by Sean Bean, an excellent interpretation by the screenwriters (he's the only character we get to see develop and change wholly within the arc of the first film), and the coolest death scene in the last decade all combine to make him my choice.
Gandalf was cool, too, though...

My vote goes for Borimir too. The book character I never identified with, but I knew exactly where he was coming from in the movie. I think he did an excellent job being just another guy who f***ed up, but is really good in heart, and dies protecting someone else.

And he keeps protecting them with arrows sticking out of his body. He keeps on fighting. That's just so incredibly smiley - cool.

On trhe comment about the Ents: I'm not sure they've been made yet. Apparently all the filming was done in one go, but the special effects, computer graphics, etc. for the other films are to be done in the year up to their release.

we want Ents!!!
