A Conversation for Role Playing: The Last Voyage of the Mary Celeste

Yo is going to be away for about a week, and Arl is away until Wednesday or Thursday. I have just asked D'Elephant if he wants to stand in for Yo while he is away. Arl's absence is shorter, so I don't think I'll try to find a stand-in for him.
Hope that is okay with everyone

Yo popped by briefly while his parents were finishing packing and gave his okay too. Now we just have to wait to see if D'E wants to play.

I just found out that on Thursday it was announced that the wreck of the Mary Celeste had been found by a NUMA expedition under the leadership of Clive Cussler! The ship was used for 12 years after it was found, then was deliberately sunk off of Haiti in an attempt to defraud the Insurance companies.
Pretty eerie that it was found just as we were starting here.
Oh, and I found the names of the 4 seamen:
Volkert Lorenson
Arian Martens
Boy Lorenson
Gotlieb Gondeschall
Interesting how the author has used them.

Great to have you, D'E

A couple of people have asked about reading backlog in threads and I think I have changed my mind about how we should handle that. Originally, I was thinking that it would be okay to read the backlog in "public" threads, where there are lots of people together, although your character can't have that knowledge. And in conversation threads, you can't read the backlog, since there needs to be somewhere for people to do private/secret things.
Now, however, I think it might be better if we treat all threads the same. You shouldn't read the backlog from a thread that you are just joining, except perhaps the last post, which you may have overheard/seen as you approached. Of course, if you are in a thread, and there is backlog when you come back the next day, then you can read all of it, since you were there all along.
I guess the basic principle is that you are in only one location at a time, and have no way of knowing what goes on elsewhere, other than asking.
Hope that helps.

Ah good I was wondering about that GL. Thanks for clearing up a potential question before it was asked. What a guy

Well, I suppose this is our shake-down cruise, so there may be other bugs to work out too.
One thing that may not be clear is that the crew bunk in the forecastle. That's why their sea-chests are there. I hadn't realized that until I read it on one of the MC web pages.

Everything seems to be going well so far, GL. Thanks for the clarification.

This ought to fit you just about right.

I just added a section on "Backlog reading" to the Info/Rules page. I also added a section on stealing items.

B-17 asked me to drop a note letting you know that he's got a guest this week, so won't be on-line very often. (In case you hadn't already noticed. ) He wanted us to carry on and he'll catch up when he gets back.

*Helps d'E get up off his knees.*
You'll have to wait for Garius to get back tomorrow. It might be a problem in that you are not supposed to read anyone's private thread but your own. But if it's OK with GL, it's OK with me.
