I'm quitting smoking and want to start exercising to get really toned. Perhaps if I were more testosteronally charged, women would regard me as something other than "That really nice guy who gave me that cuter guy's number" or "Someone who's easy to talk to."

But you're *already* easy to talk to. smiley - tongueout

As for getting toned, I can give you lots of general advice, the first of which is that having a regular routine is immensely important. The second bit of advice is this: you need a foundation of aerobic exercise, so that your physical infrastructure can handle the cardiac stress of strength-building routines. I've heard of body-builders who couldn't run worth beans. I've also heard of world-class marathoners who weren't strong enough to carry their suitcases from one end of an airport to the other. smiley - erm

I only know of a couple aerobic exercises that contribute much to upper-body strength: swimming and rowing. There may be others that I don't know about....

Some people combine running with weight-lifting.

I run before and after I exercise, as well as my daily mile-long walks to studio class with fifty pounds of equipment on my shoulders and back.
