It's a word derived from the old Norse God of Thunder, Thor. Thor's Day you, see. They did it a lot back then January was named after the roman god Janus. August was named after one of the Emperors/Ceasers: Augustine.
We reckon the whole system is in need of an over-haul. Join in of you like

Tee hee... 'Janus'.
Why would they name a month after that bird out of Game On? She's smart, but not exactly worth naming a whole 1/12th of a year after.

Greetings Reseacher 174906. I am The Warlord for the Campaign to re-name Thursday, "Thing". Hello and welcome to our little cabal, if you would like to join in with the revolution, just pop on over to the No,no,no forum, which is where we hang out most of the time.
I am also one of the ACES of this site. That stands for Assistant Community Editor. We meet and greet any new researchers and help them find their way around this great on-line community. However, I nor any of my felow ACES can leave a message on your space until you edit you page and write an introduction. Doesn't have to be anything fancy, just a simple "Hi!" would be fine. We can then be introduced properly.
See you again soon.
