GMT-6 here. Mardi Gras day is Tuesday. We'll prepare and build floats Sunday and Monday and then parade on Tuesday.

Mardi Gras is literally translated as Fat Tuesday...the day before Ash Wednesday. Also known as Shrove Tuesday.

Recognise it now.. Over here carnival starts Sunday, continues to Tuesday.. By Tuesday morning only the really strong are still on their feet . Parade on Tuesday just wouldn't be possible (who could control float, make music by that time? not very likely).

The webcams on that site ought to be pretty interesting for the next 36 hours or so...
I'm off to work, probably back in about ten hours to work on the parade a bit more.

You'll be seeing a lot of at Mardi Gras.
The unofficial motto of Louisiana translated from French is: Let the good times roll!. The official motto is in Latin and has something to do with union and justice(can you tell which is used more?).

I thought I was the only one connecting to h2g2 at horrifying hours... it now appears you're even worse than I am.. is it "still" or "already" party time?

Depends on what you consider horrifying. I have chatted until 1 a.m.(my timezone) with more than one researcher (frequently)...and realized it was 7 a.m. their time. Apparently, most of my friends in the U.K. are either nightowls or insomniacs.
It is Mardi Gras day and time to party.

How was Carnival there? I didn't go to any of the parades this year, the weather was too rainy and cold. One of my co workers wore an authentic Mardi Gras (huge)head dress to work just for laughs...it worked.

I didn't go to the parades.. wasn't that cold and didn't rain that much .. I just wasted my time on (... hesitate ...) work
In my case also means almost unlimited internet access so I saw some of the parties in a corner of the screen.

Work is a waste of good time... I still go to work and do stuff that needs to be done. Even a good day doesn't stop me from wishing I were someplace else, though.
