When it is something that I could change, then I do what I can and, accept the outcome. But, the other stuff that I can't change just makes me with anxiety...thinking too much about something I couldn't possibly change. That's when hanging around here helps a lot. It gives me something else to think about instead of needless anxiety.
Shouldn't we be starting a party?
*assumes everyone will join in and sing*
Happy Birthday to you.........

Ah, yes! But remember, Lady L - somewhere in some time zone or other the sun is already well and truly "over the yardarm" and it's perfectly acceptable to drink as much and as you want

Evangeline Posted Nov 22, 2002
Thank you. It's possible to have a good day...(if I hide in my office). Really though, it isn't such a bad place to work. I try to leave around 7:00 or 7:30.

Thanks, it was a fairly long day. Could have been worse. But, that's okay...it was Friday and it's over now.

... Yes, but some of us have to w**k all weekend
Try starting @ 0700 in a major city which doesn't provide Public Transport at this time on Sats and Suns

Still at w**k, so will have to suffice for now - thanks, Evangeline!
We still seem to be living in cardboard boxes after the move, really a question of how long we'll be here and how much (or how LITTLE) we absolutely NEED to unpack if we're soon on the move again
First job offer from Sweden wasn't as good as I'd originally hoped, talk of a short-term contract with a "Possibility" of more tacked on to it, but I can't justify putting the whole family through the trauma of an international move on such a basis.
Other possibilities being explored, including two promising contacts in Göteborg (Gothenberg) for music teacher & language teacher respectively.
On the other hand, at least I can now sleep easy and know my family is safe - the final week at our previous address was horrendous, even the Removal Van was vandalised TWICE [windows smashed] while we were sitting in the house having a quick meal between trips
Makes me even madder when the PARENTS of the 8/9 y-o thugs throwing the bricks stand there on the street corner swigging from beer bottles and actively ENCOURAGE the little s in their misdeeds by laughing & cheering instead of trying to stop them.
The police gave up responding to calls for assistance from that estate about 4 months ago when they had 3 vehicles 'torched' by the yobs in less than a month while attempting to deal with incidents in the area.
The lunatics have taken over the asylum: it's time to

That's too bad about the first job offer. I hope you find a suitable offer soon. It's tough living out of a suitcase/box.
Those children sound absolutely horrible. Years ago, a group of similarly misbehaving children tried that in our neighborhood...it didn't last more than a couple of weeks. They put sticky stuff in mailboxes, harassed our dog, and rattled trash cans among other things. My father took to cleaning his (very powerful, 12 gauge) shotgun on the patio in the evenings. He wasn't a violent man, but word got out and the other neighbors started doing the same. Our neighborhood got real quiet after that, suddenly we could hear crickets and owls again.

the first year in my new house I used to have threats of fire-bombing,my doors smashed in and kids breaking in while I was out.The neighbours simply laughed. I made a decision that for once im my life I was going to stand up to bullies.Luckily they had it in for me and not my kids .If they had been bullied i would have left immediately. Its the done thing to pick on new people to see how hard they are, apparently. I moved my few precious things into someone elses loft and stuck it out.I know all the families now and the street is quiet.Calling the police three times in a row proved my point. These days i don't live in fear of anyone and I always try to be friendly to new families whilst they are having the cars sprayed silver or every window in their house broken ,one after the other. Your old neighbourhood sounds reaally shite though, bagheera.

Hello guys.
*has quick skim through backlog*
You seem to have been reallly unlucky with your neighbourhoods. Still, none of that on the campsite, eh? Nice place to get away to. No noise, no pollution, no children, just the great outdoors!

Here's to the start of the weekend!

It's weekend again, and as usual Management [who NEVER turn in themselves at weekends] have once more decided that "the usual suspects" can w**k the shifts nobody else wants
However a would be nice, specially if Evangeline had baked some of the she's famous for
New neighbourhood, nice people, much better house (if perhaps a bit smaller, so still rearranging furniture to fit everything in place
*positions a firkin of Real home-brew for consumption by the happy campers*
