wow, how impressive, did he make it himself? cause i dont think anyone in their right mind would make something like that and sell it!

thats too bad, but its nice to have friends!
i am not sure which came first to me, but i used to direct connect and download the smileys from h2g2 and then insert them where iwanted! that was cool....

There was a florist involved in that corsage.

I emailed a page from H2G2 to a friend. The first thing she asked me was "where did those smileys come from?".

Before the BBC bought H2G2 pictures were allowed on user pages and the smileys were a bit different.

yeah.... sadly i never was involved before bbc.... it is so sad to not be able to use offsite pics!
in fact.... lets just try this!

will it work? i doubt it, but you never know

nope.... it does not, how were the smileys different?

The link to the picture worked. smiley - biggrin

When it was h2g2.com pictures could be uploaded to the user pages.

There were different smileys and the smiley - fish looked more like the babelfish icon on Altavista.

no, it did not work.... if it had worked you would see a picture there instead of a link... what i typed was a html code to try and get the image to appear.
so you uploaded the images before you used them? and you got email addresses then too right?
i wish i could have an h2g2 email!

Not sure how people got the photos onto their pages, because I had no means of digital imagery at the time. Since then I have acquired a scanner and a digital camera. Could swear that some pages had music also, but that was a while back...

I remember the [email protected] emails...never used mine, but I do remember them. My old account is U158007.

why dont you use it now? is there some reason why its dead and empty? i actually did get a n2g2 email, but have not used it either....

yeah, i used to never bother with pictures either, well except for pics already on the net, i liked to mess with them in photoshop! i love having a camera to use now though!

By the time I managed to get back into my maverick account I had to delete the really old journals. Since I had more friends as Evangeline, I tended to post more with this account. I have an n2g2 email for both screen names.

The photo pages I've set up were mainly so I wouldn't have to flood my friends's in boxes. Instead, I give them the links to my pictures. One of my first and largest projects with my computer was to scan old family photos(and repair damage). Once they were corrected, the photos were burned onto cds, emailed, printed and snailed to various family members who didn't have the really old family photos.

I spent the better part of six months scanning and editing photos. Then, I printed a set of some really old pictures of my father for my aunt. My brothers saw what I was doing and gave me a cd burner for Christmas. The next project was photo cds for each branch of our family. The oldest picture that I have is my father in 1942.

Have you done much shopping for cameras?

The prices for buying a new camera are getting lower all the time.

A 2.0 megapixel, with 3x optical zoom is more than adequate for a clear 8x10 without further software enhancements. If you can't print more than an 8x10 then you probably won't ever need a higher resolution camera.

Galen

well i dont know... its nice being able to crop whatever you want.... cause you can take a normal picture, and te=hen get something out of it that was smaller and have it being perfect clarity!

That is a very valid point. There are also some ways around that with software and a couple of tricks(the tricks I'll share if you're curious).

Example:
The objective is to enlarge a small object in a photo to as large a size as possible. Equipment consists of a digital image, a decent yet not elaborate scanner, inexpensive photo software (I use canon photo mostly) and a nice printer(something like a Lexmark z53).

1. Using software crop the image and print it.
2. Scan the print using a high resolution and increase the scale.
3. Print the scan.
This worked on a 2x3 area of a photo to convert it to an 8x10.

are you serious? thats incredible.... and i'm not sure i believe it, cause imean, i know that good scanners create huge images out of small ones.... but still.... smiley - wow

Seriously...
smiley - bigeyesHave you seen the scanners that can scan slides and negatives? Can't wait until those reach the reasonably affordable price range.
