Daniel wouldn't be any better than we are. We don't know who occupies '888. We don't know if it was even a Goa'uld. For all we know, it could be a remnant of a culture the Goa'uld turned to slavery, who went the same way themselves. Even if it was a Goa'uld planet, the Goa'uld haven't been a galactically dominant power for several years, now.
