Well, at least you have an explanation for the parrot expression, Løøny...
*thinking same explanation might be used for drunken daws*

Point of explanation. Most NZ parrots can't fly. In pre-European days they had no natural predators. When the berries fall to the ground they start rotting. The birds eat them and get drunk.

The thread ~has~ been moving along at a brisk pace, hasn't it!
Well, if anybody sees other interesting art links, let us know! *settles down in a recliner with a Corona & lime and makes sure an end table is nearby with salsa & chips*

I had heard the "drunk as a skunk" and - oddly enough - "drunk as a parrot", but never "drunk as a lord". It does make a certain amount of sense though, thinking about how the nobility must have looked to the peasants. Perhaps that's where it came from... Hmmm....
*sips her and thinks "lordly" thoughts *

Lil, could you please change my art link? Right now it points directly at a picture of an elf queen, which feels a bit too self-centred (to me) - this is the front page of artist Janet Chui:
http://www.crosswinds.net/~janetchui/
...and I'd like to add a link (if I may) to Swedish artist John Bauer:
http://www.bpib.com/illustrat/bauer.htm
...and also Finnish artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela, his picture of Lemminkäinen's mother putting together the pieces of him and reviving him being the very reason I spend my spare time going through heaps of research material trying to write an entry on 'Kalevala':
http://www.niksula.cs.hut.fi/~xyu/kale-gb/gapic.html
Unfortunately, that entry is on my list of 'things to do when other things have slowed down a bit' - but they haven't...so far...

*Mopes up the stairs, wearing a formerly patriotic uniform, before it obviously was torn to shreds, put back together, singed black in some places, and being worn inside out. He's also carrying a flag that reads "NBC Political Comedy Marathon-Day 36!" which looks terribly stained and ragged. He comes in, half his face smirking, the other half attempting to look grim*
I can't believe it's over. It was all so wonderful. Over a month of comedy that, and I give my pardons to any MP enthusiasts out there, outshone even the great Monty Python. I can't believe that...I just can't...I...*sniff*...it's over. It's all over.
*Walks over to the window and gazes at the sky*
I was going to make it last so long, if only it had gone on for a few more days. It would have been great. Might've caused another Civil War, but hey, what's the world without a little anarchy now and then? But now, that won't happen. I won't get another opportunity for this for another four years at least.
*Pulls out a tissue and dabs his eyes. Suddenly, his face brightens, and he appears to be moving much quicker*
Still, on the other hand, this result goes for what I've been saying since election night: "I support the one who I'd rather hear jokes about for the next four years." I don't care about foreign policy, party affiliation, economic plans, or even if they plan to come to my house and personally pay for my taxes for the next four years, I want the one who'll make me laugh more when I watch David Letterman, or Jay Leno, or O'Brian, or the Today Show, or whatever. Gore may have had a few better plans, but with Bush I'll have...
*Pauses for a moment, then breaks down in tears*
IT'S ALL OVER! WHY DID IT HAVE TO END SO SOON! JUST ANOTHER MONTH, THAT'S ALL I WANT! JUST ANOTHER MONTH!!!!!
*Falls into a corner and begins whimpering to himself. Every fifteen seconds or so he stops whimpering and begins chuckling manically, but fifteen seconds after that he starts whimpering again*

G'evening (Warsaw)
Hey, Affi, don't you cry, tomorrow you'll feel better and get used to the 'new' situation
Matina, a double bourbon straight for me, please. Affi, you want some also - to calm your nerves?

Hey Affi, Al seems to be laughing! I just watched his concession speech. I'd be laughing too, if I were him and knew I was free, free, FREE!
I came back to my computer a few minutes ago and discovered that Black Ice had thrown a red alert: one of the cable techies did an SNMP probe.
Now to watch Bush...

At the Feedback-Community I found a discussion about h2g2, very critical. Look at http://www.h2g2.com/F55683?thread=93045&latest=1 and tell me, what do you think about it

this paper and the election news are incredibly depressing . . .
let me suggest a site called SyberGypsy's Theme Magick (sic) for downloading all kinds of nice Pre-Raphaelite art themes for Win 98 & screensavers, etc.
tea please, and my sanity, Matina!
can't wait to try the art links.
the museum i work at is at www.colmusart.org--will send more as soon as i have time.

(who probably hasn't slept ten hours in the past four days but oddly, isn't tired--i think the secret is to only put very small doses--like what you would normally do--of caffeine & sugar into you and lots of good healthy food--and change the place where you are working frequently)

Morning (Edinburgh) all, and everyone.
Dang, missed CC again. By the way, CC, to make a clickable hyperlink in h2g2, you need to add the http:// before it i.e.:
http://www.colmusart.org should link to the museum you work in, for everybody else here Hope this helps.
Actually, it's nice to see SPINY here again. I'm off to see him IRL this evening. Reminds me, I must drop him a line. Back in a while.
*takes fresh OJ with him as he zooms out to the nearest access point.*

[Can't think of anything this morning, Nuts!]
It was quite interesting to see all the newspaper headlines this morning, all no doubt put in storage for a month and then finally shown the light of day this morning. My favorite was the Mirror (a tabloid of ill repute). It had a picture of Bush and a satellite photo of Europe with an arrow to the UK. It said, "Congratulations Dubya. P.S. We are here!"

Hey, B17, thanks for the kind words, and see you in a little while. (we're hatching something up here in Scotland, of which more anon.)
I hopped over to that conversation about the worth or otherwise of h2g2. The guy who initiated it was like somebody who drops their trousers and starts shouting in a library, then criticises the readers for not "understanding a creative act" or sharing his sense of humour when they complain. It's just immature and inappropriate behaviour, and when he congratulates himself on getting a hostile response, you know where he's coming from. He's playing the very easy game of Devil's Advocate, and like a child craving attention at any cost is best simply ignored, which is why I have no intention of posting on that thread. Sorry to put this here, but you did ask what we thought
Yes, I too am glad democracy is still alive and well and administered by the best judges money can buy. But what's all this about how "gracious" Gore was? If he'd been gracious he'd have spared us all this ordure, and given in weeks ago. Or Bush could have....

Bush says that he's going to try to "heal" the division in the country. Quite frankly, that thought terrifies me more than anything else in the campaign...
Some people think that he's going to offer Gore a spot in the cabinet. Now wouldn't that just be insteresting...
Love the front page, Munchkin! It shows that everyone knows what we'll be going through for the next four years.
Matina, can I have some please? Maybe having something that resembles breakfast will make my last day on the day shift bearable.

Phil Posted Dec 14, 2000
I saw the thread when it started and Peta tried to be polite with the chap (I assume it's male), Mark Moxon felt he had to do no such thing. I saw comments about the philosophy degree and big picture. I'd already switched off. There are some very good conversations going on on this place. I don't have the time for the crap this chap was spouting.
Has today been just really hard for anyone to get into H2G2?

It was easy enough to get in, Phil. I am having problems navigating though. It looks like the speed issues may be back...
As for the conversation, I fear that he may be doing this to shake everyone up and test our convictions. I asked him that point blank on his page, so when I get the answer I'll post it here - if you want me to.
Affi, I fear that the comedy is just beginning. The next two years should be very interesting...
