The error you're seeing is because it's flagged up as there being an apostrophe in there, and not handling it graciously.
I'd love to have used MySQL, but we get what we're given, and a 20GB MSSQL database is what we were given. Pretty much *everything* that runs in the background of DNA is an api over a stored procedure, we're just, er, putting a new front end on.
If you fancy having a go at coding the new h2g2 when we've got this one settled, I'm always on the look out
It'll be ZendF1 base for the code over the existing APIs (C#) but with new some APIs thrown in. We'll be implementing a Git based dev structure.

So are we still using the BBC protocols for moderation? It would be nice to be able to discuss current events openly.

I believe the tools from bbc are being worked through. I don't think we have anything else, because that would be a huge job to replace things completely. So, bit by bit the tools are being updated to our own needs. I think.

Indeed they are. I'm working rather hard to get the site up and running well enough so that the volunteers doing all the hard graft don't have to graft *that* hard.
And you all *KNOW* that they're volunteers. And not just any volunteers, they're *US*.
If they do something, you can be pretty darn sure there's a reason for it, and that they'll have cut us a heck of a lot more slack than anybody else would
So, please be gentle with h2g2. I don't want you to break it before I've fixed it

I don't know which thread was closed and why. I understand, however, that the mods are very busy, and maybe there were too many referred posts in that thread?

It would have been the thread reguarding the eviction of Travellers in a community in southern England. And yes, there have been a lot of posts stricken or referred there in the last number of hours. As well as elsewhere.
I will un-sub from this thread now to prevent much more of the same stuff.
Cheers, one and all.

Er..
Right.
Ok.
I have not been involved in any moderation decisions today. and I am not going to comment on the rights or wrongs of them.
Firstly the reason the BBC didn't want current events discussed today was because they had to keep politically neutral. We don't have that legal obligation.
But if A PARTICULAR THREAD on a certain topic has departed from the civilised discussion which is so valued here, and in other places and has degenerated into a flame war then the moderators MAY choose to choose that thread.

I meant to post 388. I was going to elaborate a little in post 389, then changed my mind, then pressed return.

Good Doctor Zomnker (This must be Tuesday," said GDZ to himself, sinking low over his Dr. Pepper, "I never could get the hang of Tuesdays.") Posted Oct 20, 2011
Today has been busy.
I had to lock down my laptop so C can't use it (he's been sneaking it out of the office at night to talk to his friends) and I had to lock down his phone. This was not planned for the day!
I have just finished cleaning his bedroom carpet, this was planned.
Next, orthodontics appointment for A, she is getting braces today.
Tonight, bowling!

I came out of long term lurking to rebuild this site
I cut my coding teeth on it back when it launched, there was no way I was going to let it die. It's now getting there, there being "stable"

Already it's a lot more functional than it has been for a very long time. What you said yesterday about the coders and their masters at the BBC was extremely diplomatic, but I got the message.

I'm all diplomacy me
Which is why when I come out with a directly confrontational opinion you know I'm right and the other person's wrong

Pastey, I'll remember not to doubt you. I never doubt Lil, so now there are two of you I can always count on.
