just to let you know, i'm going to try applying a fix for the suffix bug in about half an hour, hopefully that'll sort some things out.

Teucther NOT keaboo,
Have you used the "Settings" link above (between your screen name and Sign Out) to change your moniker? It provides two options for naming conventions: 1) Screen Name, which displays to the 'left' of a dash (-) and 2) Suffix, which is what ends up being your on-screen nickname whenever you sign into H2G2.com. The Screen Name is still used back at the Beeb to keep track of your other accounts / interactions on the websites, but the Suffix is particular to here at NooHooToo. I tinkered with mine a bit, had to fill the blanks several times, and even "give it a moment" to collect its thoughts, THEN it showed up properly here. Just a suggestion...fill both blanks, be sure to use your Password (so it 'allows' the change), then submit and go away for a bit. When you return, it should have sorted itself out.

B4_UKnowMe said "I bet the state of Ohio will have to do some serious soul-searching about whom they allow to own and handle wild animals. We can hope it won't be a "knee-jerk" reaction, but rather a well-thought-out process to ensure such a travesty will not occur again. "
Uhm! Yeah, just like every US State always has a long hard look at gun control everytime there is a madman with a gun rampaging through any of their towns, cities or wide open countryside. And then does nothing at all, so the right to bear semi-automatic offensive weapons although not what the founding fathers intended in their drafting of second amendment.

And again we see that, unless you're using Alabastered, some of the Screen Names don't show up. When I addressed Irv earlier, it was an assumption, because I'd seen him show up without a name.
Now it's kelli and Demon Drawer, without monikers.

Seeing all the names Ok in classic goo.
That's all a bit of a bummer Teuchter. Keep trying.
In this day and age all these animals should be fully registered with the authorities and some kind of oversight kept on them. Even if it's just regular licensed vet checks. We can't afford to lose animals like these at all.

Oookay peeps, I've applied a "fix" for the screen names, and it now seems that you're getting just the screen name, no suffix, in all skins.
I've got the day job to do now, so will patch the suffixes in later
If these aren't showing just the screen names in all skins, can you let me know?

Pastey,
Yes, the Screen Name shows up in all skins. Tried it. Works.
But, as you say, the Suffix is not there. That's the moniker I'd prefer, but...I'll wait for the final fix from you.

Perhaps a silly question, ... are suffixes needed? Now away from the BBCiD and the forced limit to 30 or 50 characters for screen names, perhaps a simple step might be to allow a reasonable length name. And just drop the suffix bit entirely

Pastey, I get the names (except Teuchter's!) and the suffixes in Goo. Good job and thanks for your help!
RE the animals shot in Ohio, I was stunned that the reason, given in a radio report with the Sherrif in Ohio, for killing all but 6 of the animals (including some monkeys!!) was that they didn't have any tranquillizer guns. When asked why they hadn't called the nearest zoo, they said it wouldn't have helped "in time". Since they had to spend half the day hunting the animals, I very much doubt that. They're just a bunch of yahoos whose idea is to shoot first, and justify later. Idiots can't be allowed to run wildlife stations, but cops should always have non-lethal methods in place.

Changing the length of allowed screen name might mean altering part of the database, which I'm not keen on doing.
I'll look into it at lunch and see what restrictions we have, but in the mean time feel free to see how long a name you can get away with
If we don't *need* suffixes, I'm more than happy to just get rid of that part.

250!
I used:
B4_45678901234567890... and counted each iteration of ten. It'll do 25 x 10 for a total of 250 characters for your Screen Name.
So...we probably don't even need the Suffix thingy, do we?

I tried up to 75 characters, and while it was accepted and showed across my top bar, it did not appear in any conversations. Perhaps I didn't wait long enough?

I'd say we don't need the suffixes... the function was only added by the Beeb after they changed to BBCiD and nobody could have their old Hootoo display names anymore.

We're currently looking into dropping them.
We just want to make sure that turning them off is not affecting anything else.

When I "acid tested" the length of the Screen Name to 250 characters maximum, it kept on s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g my Classic Goo page farther and farther, for both the text frame AND the sidebar. What a WIDE LOAD!

It took some time and word-of-mouth for the limitation of names to be spread and folks dealt with it. If the under-pinnings might gain in management capability and stability by losing the 'suffix' field, then I'm sure the community at-large could cope well enough. Good luck, Mr
