Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am... Posted Oct 20, 2011
Glad w*rk is nearly finished... though tonight is going to be busy. Need to do bass practice (I'm having proper lessons and everything!) and start writing the next Pathfinder adventure for the new RPG group. Plus general tidying and decluttering.

Third out of how many teams, Gw7en?
Also, I take it your pager didn't go off during the quiz?

Third out of 19 which isn't bad. And the pager waited until I was almost home to go off, and then let me sleep the rest of the night through. It was practically kind!

Is it safe for us to put on our anagrams for Halloween?
Just catching up on backlog before I roll off to the kitchen and make breakfast...

The fix has been done - that's why it should be safe.

Re the exotic animal carnage yesterday: Ohio did have a law temporarily in place controlling the sale and possession of charismatic megafauna (that's the very technical term), but the new governor let the rule expire on the grounds that it was bad for local businesses. I'm not making this up.
John Hanna, the director of Columbus Zoo and also a teevee personality, did indeed defend the actions of the police, and reminded everyone that the late owner had sabotaged the cages and pens so that the animals could not be returned to the refuge. There was nowhere to put them at the zoo (Hey, got room for 18 tigers?). It was just a ing shame.
Private citizens have no business owning lions and tigers. Period.

"d'El, it's a Zend front end using the built in forms (shudder) passing information through a cleaner to a transactional MSSQL stored procedure through a ODBC connector."
Humph. I would expect the cleaner to properly escape the apostrophes.
I usually use MySQL with php, but there's probably an equivalent to the "mysql_real_escape_strings()" function that you should be able to pass everything through. That'll turn all the ' into \' making them safe for the SQL.
But then if my memory is correct, using a stored procedure should take care of that for you too. So that's that it's not. Or maybe that happens when you use prepared statement, not a stored procedure?

I'm gone for a late bite of lunch, and if I don't find my way back in again, it has been a pleasure knowing many of you.

Just seen a thread closed by the new mods about an ongoing current events story. Apparently no further discussion of the topic is permitted. It saddens me to read that, I thought that we wouldn't be seeing that sort of thing post-bbc.

I think the new mods have a difficult job to do. It's their first few days and they're getting all the same old arguments flaring up again, the same old hurt feelings, and the same old fights.
They'll all volunteers and they've been working hard for the past few months working out what they would do in hypothetical situations.

Just got back from lunch with a friend. She is doing a driving tour of the continental United States in her custom-pink Mustang to help earn money for breast cancer research. She stopped in Austin just long enough for our lunch and is now headed to her next destination.

One of the things that I hoped would be left behind with the BBC was the dragging into the salon of baggage from issues ~outside~ the salon. Stop that. Please.
