Ben, I think there are treatments you can't have on the NHS if your BMI is above a certain cutoff. I was denied access to the birth centre at the hospital I gave birth in based on my BMI (I was 0.1 over the threshold). There are probably lots of things where GPs routinely tell people they can't do anything until they have got to a particular BMI.

Outside of the nhs you can stop paying at weightwatchers once you have both lost 7lb and have a healthy BMI and they refuse to weigh you at meetings if you slip below the healthy range.

A glorious sunny day today, would have loved a swim while t'Boy was having his swimming lesson but t'Other is poorly so couldn't go in...

All that talk of spinach and eggs, I added some spinach to my omlette tonight - it was very successful so thanks for that suggestion salon!

smiley - snorkPlease, please oppress me. The insurance company just raised its rates again, and I can't afford all this freedom I supposedly have. Supposedly the health bill will go into effect in a few more years, but what are we supposed to do in the meantime?

Just got back from combing kitties at the shelter. To a cat, they all are opposed to BMI (Barking Monsters Indoors).

Spinach... Last nite I had one of those bags of baby spinach, and I didn't feel like a salad, so I got out a tablespoon of butter and a couple of cloves of roasted garlic... YUM!

Probably not as good for me as a salad, but very tasty.

Good night all.

I didn't complete the RealAge thing, because it asked things I don't know the answer to, like my weight. And I don't really want anyone trying to sell me vitamin supplements. Personally I think it's a good thing that the industry is being stopped from making unsubstatiated claims: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/10240263.stm

Not listened to that since ooh last week.

I'll keep with my socialised healthcare. It means I don't have to pay the running costs for the medicines and other gubbins to keep me alive. I like being alive quite a lot and don't want to not be alive for some while yet.

I just listened to a story on the radio where the reporters visited Chernobyl. I was surprised to learn that it was less than two months after the murder of Sweden's prime minister Olof Palme - in my mind, those two disasters happened different years. How odd.

Both were surely in 1986 - we were in France and those things happening seemed even more dramatic as we were away from home.

A charity mugger made me cry today. I don't think they're meant to do that. To be fair, I was hot and tired already (I'm normally quite adept at spotting and avoiding them), but even so. Not impressed.

We are having a wee ceremony and reception this afternoon from 2-4, so I needed to work part of the day anyway. Oh well.

Our short hours start on Monday. I sure hate doing it, but I can't come up with a better solution to our financial problems.
