Back to Ringo turning 70, what causes me to pause is when I see people my own age who look old. I suppose it is normal for us to think we look good for our age. I mean, seriously, I think I look younger than I am. Whether I do or not is beside the point. Then I see someone I went to school with and do a double take because they look so much older than I do. And I suppose they think I'm the one who looks ancient while they still look good.

The point being that inside my head I'm still the same perky person I've always been. The age on a calendar or on a real age test or a reflection in a mirror doesn't reflect the inside me who still feels the same as ever.

Really? I'm seriously thinking of painting over the bathroom mirror, Hypatia. My mother keeps looking out of it at me. Very disconcerting, and it totally blows any idea that I might have had regarding how old or young I look.
If you are reading this, Mom, I'm pretty sure I didn't mean it the way it came out.

Although it is frustrating that physically I can't accomplish the things I could 30 years ago. That's how I know I'm getting old.
It's also frustrating that I keep having the public interrupting me so I have to make a lot of individual posts.

If it's worth anything, HN, I don't think you look old. Not that I know what your mom looks like. Or that I'm any good at guessing ages by looks.
Oh, dear, is that a foot rapidly approaching my mouth?

My mother actually was well into her 70s before she started showing her age, HN. She had nice skin into her 80s and she still has nicer hair than I do. And I really don't look like her much, so I don't see her reflection in the mirror.

minichessemouse - Ahoy there me barnacle! Posted Jul 8, 2010
the real age test gave me a couple of months onto my real age. meh. odd that it didn't ask about chicken. I sorta read the first page of "here's why" stuff and then told it to fork off.
Cycled the Tay bridge today 3 miles and about another mile pottering around on the shorefront. My but that bike could do with a new saddle!

Didn't do the real age test because it required me to register/sign up. I get enough spam and phishing mails.

Same thing here - I never trust sites I don't trust - it's a bit of a vicious circle, alas...
As with age, I seem to generally assume everyone is exactly the same age I am unless it is really blatantly obvious that they're not.
Getting back to bicycles, I heard somewhere that there are nine million bicycles in Beijing. That's a fact, it's a thing we can't deny. Like the fact that I rather fancy a cup of .

Yay for the Manx missile . The tour is just so watchable on tv now. The coverage is just great with all the gorgeous French countryside and crowds, plus the race itself which can be very exciting.

I hadn't realised how complicated it all is and I've been half watching it when my Dad's had it on for years. As a fan of formula one, I find it very odd that the person who really wins is not the person who wins the most stages for example. Still, it does seem to make it really interesting as you've got about five or six different races going on all at the same time. Still, I really do not understand the tactics. Why, for example, were the people chasing the yellow jersey not really bothering today?

Phil Posted Jul 8, 2010
As you say Sol Le Tour is several races all rolled into one. The stage win, the Maillot Jaune, Maillot Vert and so on. A bit like F1 in that it is a team who can win it for the champion.
We've been out for an evening of laughter and music to celebrate the life of a local musician boxe comedian Chris Seivey aka Frank Sidebottom. Lots of good stuff indeed for a gente man.

My Wii fit does the same thing, often from day to day.

I love roasted vegetables. I've found that whatever vegetable it is, if you cut it up and put it in the oven with olive oil and black pepper, it comes out great. I tried this with cauliflower the other day - yum! I also love asparagus and broccoli done this way.
> Does anyone here have a martin house, and how did you get the birds to nest in it?
I've heard that martins are very difficult to encourage to move in. The house has to be a certain distance from tall trees, and it has to be a certain height from the ground. I'd love to have them - we've got lots of food for them.
But I think a bat house would be just fine, and they're easier to entice... as long as my doggie is up on his rabies shots, everything should be fine.
> Develop a taste for escargot. Not bad, sauteed with garlic
You can actually catch snails and prepare them for eating - feed them on carrots until they poop orange, and then you know they're full of carrot and not dirt. Then you can cook them up!
My RealAge is .2 higher than my actual age. They don't like the fact that I'm overweight, and that I don't take vitamins.
Kelli, I feel your pain about the BMI. I think a BMI of 24.6 is perfectly healthy, and you shouldn't stress about this. There seems to be two schools of thought on weight - one group isn't happy unless you weigh the absolute minimum recommended by the BMI. The other group says that as long as you maintain a healthy weight, and don't yo-yo up and down, you'll be fine. My BMI is 27.6 right now, and I'm hating it!

Re: BMI.
If you are struggling to understand or deal with BMI, please read this article:
http://www.maa.org/devlin/devlin_05_09.html
It fully explains who developed the formula (hint: a prominent mathematician) and why (hint: not for medical diagnosis).
Synopsis: When applied to a large population, the BMI formula is descriptive, not predictive. When applied to the individual, a BMI calculation is mathematical rubbish.
