Phil

Had all our bins (refuse and recycling) collected during the silly season and the snow. I think there was one day when they were a day late but no complaints from up about it at all.

Wasn't getting at you Bea - you just reminded me that I had been struck by that on bin day.

I can see that having 7 of you would increase the rubbish generated, but quite a lot of my neighbours are widows. Those that aren't are young familes like ours. Our street was built in the 50s and quite a lot of the widows moved in around then and raised their families here. Now their husbands have almost all shuffled off and the kids have got kids of their own. It is interesting that so many of them stayed put and now we can see the cycle starting again. I wonder if any of us new families will be in the same houses in 50 years?

Today is our bin day and we have excellent bin men. I wrote a letter saying so to the local authority a while back. They turn up at 6.50 every week, rain hail or shine. Only snag was the ice the other week when they couldn't get the wagon up the road, but a phone call to the transport people produced some grit and another one to the local authority produced the bin men.

There are four Christmas trees awaiting collection on our street. They managed to collect the recycling, but not the Christmas trees which were also supposed to be collected on that particular day. I wonder how long they'll stay there? They are really puzzling my housemate's poor guide dog!

Magwitch - My name is Mags and I am funky.

Up until 11am, my paper and cardboard bin was full. It's not been collected since before Christmas as the snow had made our little Avenue impassable, hence the car boot is now full of cardboard. The bin men did a great job, taking the blue bags to the entrance and picking them up from there. We couldn't expect the recyclers to tote heavy blue bins around (although we did hope).

We're off to get a pair of finches today (hopefully). Keir wants them to be a married couplesmiley - silly

Mrs Zen

I had been wondering if your neighbours had been decluttering Kelli. I had masses of bags for the bins but they were full of stripped wallpaper and raised carpet, not normal weekly rubbish.

It;s also possible if the widows offspring came round for Christmas and said "I'll clear up, Mum" that the daughters in law didn't bother with the niceties of recycling.

I like what you said about people still living in the houses where they raised their families, Kelli. I like the stability of that.

Ouch mini! Could you not have laid it on really thick and got out of pack mule duty for the entire journey?
