Best party? So many to choose from... especially during the Pink Caravan trip (in 1992, travelling by bus from Sweden to Egypt). Any place where we stayed more than one night we had a party. Imagine 125 people varying in age from 18 to 80 in different stages of inebriation. I had no idea there existed so many silly drinking games
Or maybe the one my Flamenco teacher arranged the year that Stockholm Water Festival was visited by one of Spain's most famous Flamenco giysy families; the Farruco family.
http://www.xs4all.nl/~davidbos/flamenco/farruco_en.htm
She managed to convince them to come to the party after they had performed at the festival, and all us dance pupils got to see them perform for free which they did as thanks for foods and drinks. After that, we all danced Sevillanas, which is Spanish folk dance rather than Flamenco, but there's no way I'd dance Flamenco in front of the family members

What an opportunity for you David.
Stuck on a train that isn't going anywhere. A train somewhere in front is broken and we're at the back of the queue, not far from where I get on the train.

Sorry to hear, Phil -- hope you can get home soon.
Titania, that must have been *some* caravan trip!
Wildest party I ever went to, was a Halloween party my roommate and I gave that doubled as our house-warming. By the end, people were getting scared to go near the punch bowl (a huge 40 gal Pyrex beeker "borrowed" from the UCLA biology lab), as the dry ice in it was getting feistier, instead of dying down, and a couple of folks ended up in the pool in front of our front door, in their skivvies. Fun anyway, and if I'd just have had a camera, I could have retired in luxury!
First kiss was with my friend's future BIL, whom I'd just met at her rehearsal dinner. Oddly, although we dated for a couple of months, I can't remember his name. He wasn't a bad kisser, though.

Mornin All
Cool and dampish.
Late start today as the dentist had to be warded off, he's been nagging to change a perfectly good filling in my front teeth for about 15 years now. He must have girded up his loins as he announced "I'm going to change that filling this morning". Me, "Why has anything changed" Him, "No". Me, "Well leave it alone then". OK go and see the hygenist then. Thank you, see you in July.

Hmm, I've realised I haven't contributed to the party discussion. I'm not really one for parties, as the more people there are in one space, the more nervous I get. I find that if lots of conversations are going on around me, I can't tune in to the one I'm involved in and just hear a general background buzz. So for me, smallish gatherings of people who know each other well and are prepared to be a bit silly are my favourites. Some good food and plenty of laughter are the essential ingredients.

Bluebottle, no need to read all the backlog (go on throw it on the fire) I'm sure Lil has an exemption pass somewhere that she'll let you use. Just read one post, F38024?thread=7141170&skip=1804&show=1

Oh, I like small parties just as much as big ones. If there's booze flowing and good food and fun company, I'm a happy camper. Er, partier.

Phil, something I've always wondered about living where so many people depend on public transportation is if your pay is docked when you're late to work because the trains or buses are slow? It isn't your fault, after all. But it isn;t the employer's fault either. Well, not unless you're BB.
David, that is definitely . One of those stories you can tell the grandkids.
Parties? The noisier they are, the less I like them. The number of people is less important to me than the noise level. Unless they're outside in the summer. Then the noise doesn't bother me.
Mags, if you only hear from these people when they want something, then I'd just ignore them.

My late ex and I held a party not long after we were married and toward the end of the evening all thirty-odd guests were seated on the floor being taught and singing Jamaican folk songs by one of the guests, who led us in field chants and other stuff. Very , and one of my best party memories.
I suffer from the same party affliction as David B -- don't like large parties and prefer small, unified gatherings.
This was one of those mornings when it got darker after the sun had come up! We've had rain on the heels of a fierce windstorm, with more rain coming later.

I had a 30th birthday party quite recently (well, yesterday) and had a select gathering of 8. I think quality of guests always outweighs quantity.

Phil, thanks for the link to the backlog-summation-party song!
Now I can catch up on the backlog in small bites!
I just returned from out of town for the long weekend for my bil's 50th Bday party. I don't know if it was my best ever, but great fun. Everyone of course asked him if he was surprised (he was at the party location and we met in a side room and then paraded in after his 2 year old granddaughter entered and said "Hi, Pop-Pop!")
It turns out that he was surprised... including the 2 previous days when he expected the party!
At the after-party I learned Speed Scrable ("take 5" variation) http://www.ehow.com/how_2187725_play-five-scrabble-tiles.html
