Steam punk is what you get if you assume current gadgets with Victorian technology, as in A38083601

Those are amazing cakes. Love the second wedding cake.
My housemates are not being sensible. One of them is currently quite hard to live with - she's been continuously irritable and impatient with everything said to her for several weeks. And the other two have been extremely unsubtle in discussing this fact on Livejournal. So now irritable-housemate is annoyed at them for being annoyed with her.
I am staying out of it.

> I'm not dead yet!
Ah, you'll be stone dead in a moment.
Lil, so you've got some feeling back in your legs? That's great! Stuff like that takes forever to heal, so give it time. Is your bum still fizzing? (Or is that too personal? )
Quite enjoyed Spamalot, even the Laker Girls.
> And the costume is coming along quite nicely. Finished everything but the skirt hem, which I'm thinking I'm going to do on the machine, and the final application of rings and straps and such (dang, but Steampunk is *involved*). I even made a necklace. Still haven't figured out what I'm wearing UNDER the corset ...my upper arms and exposure are not friends.
Montana, you can buy a pattern for an underskirt. It's a shirt-like thing with a wide neck with a tie that can be cinched up and tucked below the corset line, as well as big floppy sleeves and a long skirt. You could probably cobble something together - it's a very simple pattern, and as long as you leave enough room in the arms, you'll be fine. Or, heck, you're in California - there's gotta be a Victorian costume shop somewhere around there.
I've been putting together Renaissance costumes out of hippie wear for several years, but most of my costumes are peasant garb, and not really Steam Punk correct.

Oh, and I would absolutely adore a Steampunk laptop.

lentilla, my condition is very mixed. I have a heightened awareness of the musculature in the upper legs, what I'd call an improvement, while at the same time I've lost more feeling in my feet. I almost said "the feet". I'm sure you know just what I mean. Proprioception in my feet is very very poor -- some nights, I have to look for them.
I just wish I were able to get a referral to someone who could tell me what to do and what not to do, a management program. Anyone who thinks our health care system is just fine is either perfectly healthy or a member of Congress.

The steampunk cakes are gorgeous, but a bit past my abilities.
Lentilla, when one wears a victorian back bustle skirt, you have to have an actual skirt under it, since the sides are not actually closed. I've already got it worked out, and I'm NOT buying anything! I'll have to set up a flickr account or something so you can all see the stuff!

I pass on some wise words of my grandmother about hems:
'Anyone who is in a position to comment on the hem will be in no condition to do so'.
Which suggests she'd been to parties where people passed out. Who'd have thought?

My great grandmother gave me the best piece of fashion advice I ever got: If you were old enough to wear a fashion the first time it came around, you are probably too old to wear it the second time it appears.
Yes, I'm talking to you, woman my age wearing stirrup pants, a big sweater, and mile-high bangs. Oh yes.

Mornin All
Cool, dry, still with a very heavy dew.
Went to a Davy Knowles with back Door Slam concert last night. Davy is a phemonemal blues, rock guitarist. He's a local lad, ex customer of Mrs WA who got a big hug from him while we were having a pint before the show. He tours the States now and lives in LA.

Amazing cakes. I was new to steampunk as well - once again, the Salon is a fountain of education

Ah, yes I can see why that'd be unclear... it was a response to GT's question about MR not being able to get superglue as MR wanted a glue that dried clear.
