Under those circumstances, a gift of cash to help with the honeymoon sounds like a good idea and I'm sure is appreciated. I'll have to mention that to some of my friends.
Thinker, that is a fun story. Fortunately, Annie has never dialed the police. Or anyone else.

Well you could have just called me.
I need to write up my last project both as an abstract for a poster and as an presentation tonight.
So far so good. I have to re-do all the data analysis because I got a bit addicted to collecting 'just a bit more data'.
I do hope that one day I'll have a publication that doesn't just prove the ing obvious.

>>Somebody tries to mug you with a knife, you shoot them????
Well, even the "in your own home" thing depends to a certain extent on which state you're in, as do the self defense rules, but generally speaking "self defense" is considered a defense to a crime. If the jury believes that you acted to preserve your own life, or that of another, within certain standards, then you get an acquittal, not a lesser charge. So, to a certain extent, if you are being threatened with a knife (deadly force) you might legally be within your rights to shoot your attacker. My guess is, though, that if you are being threatened with a knife, and you pull a gun, your attacker will drop the knife and run the hell away, and you won't need to shoot. Shooting a (now unarmed) person in the back is not generally thought of as self defense....
>>I got the full Blessing Way, so to speak
I'm relatively certain that such a ceremony takes a few days to complete, and is not covered by indigent care It is covered by my health insurance plan, though!

Superb moment at the WI this evening: an elderly lady in her 80s commented on how hard she had found it "to get a hooker for a gentleman who seemed to want one". - The speaker was the editor of the local paper, and she quite put him off his stride.

But you were at work and so was I, and it was 3 minutes before a meeting. H2 was open on my PC. What can I say?

Irv, I thought that in some places, the DA would neglect to press charges in blatant self-defense cases?

In UK, it takes VERY extenuating circumstances to claim 'self defence'
If you hit someone 'TOO HARD' you can still be prosecuted for manslaughter, even if he is waving a Samurai sword in your wife's face!!
I think this is wrong. We in the UK can be sent to jail for defending our property/home.

The DA, or County Attorney, or whoever is prosecuting the case usually has a very large amount of discretion.

Sorry Irving.
Law in UK says that if you kill someone, you have to prove that it was your life or theirs.

Irv, I know the Blessing Way is in fact quite a long ceremony, and as you correctly divined, I was stretching a metaphor. As one needle after another went in, I began to visualize myself as a porcupine.

When I had a lung removed, I only saw the first line going in...........
When I woke up there were five lines going in, plus a drain coming out!!!!
