Yes, that is a word. The name of a small town in SW MO.
Another semi-sleepless night. Propping my eyelids open with toothpicks at the moment.
Glad your computer is up again, Ben.
Minerva's incision doesn't look too great. It's a real hassle getting a vet's appointmenton a Monday morning.
FACETED
Agapanthus Posted May 2, 2005
It's Bank Holiday Monday, the sun is blazing, and we're wasting it Spring Cleaning.
AAAAARRRRRRGHGGHHHH!
Sorry about that. I hate housework more than I thought possible. And S is hoovering the bookshelves in a manner absolutely calculated to make me feel inadequate becasue I've sat down for a cup of tea and a quick nip in here. But we have friends coming tomorrow and even I, Queen of Squalor, cannot make them sleep in a study precariously balanced on top of a drift of paperwork. And next week, the Mother in Law is coming, and she is house-proud. Not that she'd say anything, she is after all a nice lady with good manners, but I'll know that she knows that I am a complete slob and am forcing her hard-working son to live knee-deep in printed matter.
In-Laws. I really shouldn't complain, as I actually LIKE my in-laws and enjoy their company and have more or less been a daughter to them these past ten years and they always include me in family stuff and have known me since I was seventeen. But you could here the 'but' building up from the beginning of the sentence, couldn't you? I think it's because MIL has known me since I was seventeen. Therefore she assumes that I do everything the same way she does things. And of course I don't. She washes up straight after supper. I hate washing up straight after supper and am perfectly happy to do it in the morning and not spoil my evening by spending an hour in the sink instead of spending quality time with my husband. And guests. So if I don't leap up and do the washing up, she does, and I want to wrestle her to the ground, tear the rubber gloves from her hands and tie her to an arm chair in the living-room. She refuses to leave it. Argh. Or cooking. Now MIL can't cook very well (FIL does most of the cooking) but when I am cooking in my very own kitchen and BTW I really CAN cook, she can't go and sit down, oh no, she has to 'offer to help', or 'interfere' as I call it and is completely incapable of slicing an onion in the manner in which I require an onion to be sliced. I can't get her NOT to 'help'. And so on. I have just seen how LONG this paragraph is.
Anyway, I have finished the tea and must go and clean the second bathroom (why do we have two bathrooms?) and make the spare bed. And hoover the living and find the missing gas bill and pay the missing gas bill and sort out the 'wool pile' as it's taking over the flat... One of my mother's lovely old books on needlework refers to knitting as a 'convenient hobby that takes up little room'. HAH!

Hyp - I am downloading virus updates for the Dell using the modem, so I can't phone you right now.
Z will try pinging you on IM, but forgive him if the coversation is disjointed, because he will be using the Sony which is b*gg*red, and has the electronic equivalent of a severe stutter, interspersed with epileptic fits.
If I have one word of advice for someone buying a PC it is "Do not buy Sony".

*k pops her head around the door and waves at everyone*
Welcome JulesK, nice to see you here
Ag, I'm still of your MIL, want to swap?
Have had a very outdoorsy ban collie day weekend so far and now, despite the fact that the sun is still shining I *must* sit down and make a start on the evening invites. Have not done any wedding organising at all this weekend despite planning to do lots. Oh dear.
MUTATIONS
Montana Redhead (now with letters) Posted May 2, 2005
Ag, my mum is the exact same way. Cannot NOT do dishes right away, etc. Of course it makes me feel inadequate, but then, if you stop and think, what she's trying to do, no matter how awkwardly, is help you. Try deliberately thinking of it that way and it should help.
I'm throughly annoyed with one of my students. The study guide for the midterm exam goes like this: The mid-term examination will deal with the Black Death, i.e., its causes, consequences, etc. The exam will have two questions. You will be required to answer both. The material covered in the exam will include all lectures and readings through Friday, April 29.
She wants to know the following: Is it just the black death, or everything? Are there going to be two essay questions?
Lest you're sympathetic, it states on the syllabus that all tests are essay tests. Is it just me, or is she really that stupid? Or is it just a Monday morning kind of thing?

It's easier to ask you than to RTFM.
The conference call took a whole hour and has given me another couple of hours worth of chores. And it's wet and cold and dreary. I was hoping to re-shoot some of these student paintings, because in several cases there was a clash of fluorescent and day light; the temperature of the color is different on the left from what it is on the right!

Took me a minute to realize what RTFM meant! True enough.
Did anyone see Laura Bush's jokes at the White House Press dinner? She apparently has great comedic timing, and one of her jokes was that she and the president are opposites...he's extroverted, she's introverted, he likes to be around people, she doesn't, she knows how to say nuclear...
That actually made me laugh.

Welcomes
JulesK Posted May 2, 2005
*Turns slowly around 360' giving all in the room a nervous wave*
Thank you one and all for the welcome you've given me
Talking about noise from outdoors, we were woken up Saturday night (well, more accurately in the small hours of Sunday morning) by the people over the back fence spilling outside for a loud chat while they smoked; this morning, on our Bank Holiday Day off W**k, the next-door-but-one chap decided to do some DIY at 8.30am! This affected us more than usually because we had our own (quieter)soiree with friends last night!
Today has been so warm I have got sunburn on my neck and shoulders from a brief walk.
