*tries to keep on top of backlog*
Just got back from a lovely day out to see my Godmother in Oxford... and it turned out that some friends of my mum's from way back live near there, so we went to see them too. Beautiful weather until we got back to just outside Manchester, when the heavens opened and we had the hardest rain I've seen for several months...

The more I think about it, the more I realise that there *isn't* anywhere I'd rather be than snuggled up in bed with J with a huge thunderstorm going on outside. Do you think we'll get some tonight?
Don't know why I'm posting this here (have just nipped out to go to the loo), I should go and tell *him* that.

Kelli, that's so cute. I like thunderstorms too, mind you...
Haven't done nearly enough housework. That's tomorrow up the spout as well. Grr.

*waves to everyone*
We had a terrific downpour at uni this afternoon.
This evening I went bell ringing for the first time. (appologies to non-British salonistas-the guide appears not to have an entry to explain) I enjoyed myself, and I also learnt how to play bar billiards in the pub afterwards. I must do some w*rk though, so

Montana Redhead (now with letters) Posted May 2, 2005
Rosemary, you're either talking about playing 'ring and run' or handbells. I'm assuming the latter?
I asked my advisor today to help me understand the difference between manorialism, feudalism, the seignurie banal, and the estate system. What does he give me? A list of ten books to read before my exams.
I'm feeling rather like strangling him at this point.

Bellringing generally refers to church bells. In a bell tower there is a room that contains the ropes attached to the large church bells. A team of people ring these bells in complimenting rhythms to cause such tunes and sounds such as the one you traditionally get at weddings and the like.
Bell ringing is begun by the phrase
'Treble's going....'
Although I never understood exactly what that means I don't ring myself but have friends who do.
I'm ASSUMING this is what Rosemary is talking about...
I just tried a bottle of Mountain Dew...and liked it. Am I terribly uncultured now?

Montana Redhead (now with letters) Posted May 2, 2005
Ah, well then. I'd forgotten about those sorts of bells, yes. I'm still fairly certain it wasn't ringing people's doorbells and then running away, though.
Although I guess it could have been.
Mountain Dew...watch out for the caffeine (although Ruby Red Squirt has more). I find it horridly sweet, even the diet version.
I'll stick to the diet coke with lime.

Yes, I was talking about change ringing (technical term) which you only really find in England. The phrase "treble's going", as you always start with the treble, which is the lightest bell, refers to the point at which you pull the rope and it starts to move, at which point everyone else should start, so that their bell rings when it should. Learning to get to that point takes a while though, as for starters, learning to catch the rope isn't easy, as I discovered (now have blood blister under left thumbnail where the rope caught it at one point.)

Kelli, I you; nothing better than a cuddle during a raging storm!

Ummm, if I may ask, what is "Ban Collie Day"?
[I quite like collies, even have a couple as friends...]
Spent the day poring over job listings and calling all over h*ll and gone; but I got an interview for tomorrow with an agency.

SC, that's actually Bank Holiday.
Affy, there's a song called 'Marvin, I Love You' that came out... I don't know when it came out. We've got a recording of it that played on Dr. Demento. It's a bit late for the tribute, though.
That ice cream that Ag made sounds really good... Post the recipe!
> Did anyone see Laura Bush's jokes at the White House Press dinner? She apparently has great comedic timing, and one of her jokes was that she and the president are opposites...he's extroverted, she's introverted, he likes to be around people, she doesn't, she knows how to say nuclear...
Many of those jokes were written by the speechwriter. But there was one comment about Bush using the chain saw on the ranch, and how he liked it so much - that was why he got along so well with Cheney and Rumsfeld.

Kat, in Texas we call that Mountain Ew.

It's so cold that I've built a fire. The weather report says we might have a bit of snow tomorrow.
Affi, could you build us a Zoe? Chloe is becoming overworked, what with all the new salonistas...
