Ouch, Marv!

Did you file an accident report? Hope so, because it's good for the insurance people if you can show them an official-looking piece of paper. I can already tell you that you'll need to call the doctor. Probably a bit late tonight, but you're going to have several pulled and strained muscles.

smiley - ok to tartaronne, Montana, Hypatia, FG and the rest... I agree wholeheartedly with what you said.

Many of our problems come from our calorie-soaked snack foods. But the media doesn't help either; very few 'stars' look like real people. I think it's difficult for any teen to have a good self-image, because television tells them they should look like this.

Lil, I'm not sure if it's something you changed or whether I changed it at the last minute - "Derrida and Spinoza's writings were chopped up" rather than "Derrida and Spinoza were chopped up." smiley - biggrin Wishful thinking on my part, perhaps. Thanks! That was fun.

Lentilla, That is scary. I could have sworn writings was part of the sentence. At least that is how I remember reading it.

Marv, the best part is no one seriously hurt, maimed or worst. Glad you are still with us.

100% Beginner, 86% intermediate, 100% advanced, and 50% expert. Well I didn't do to poorly with the first three but, as you can see, I'm no expert.

Nice scribing. Amazing amount covered in a very short time span.

The library has got to be the hotspot for humour if not dumbness. Do people take out books from the library so that they may be perceived as being "intelligent?" But then, I often call myself when I can't remember what I did with my cellphone. Once I thought I lost the telephone grocery shopping. Borrowed a phone and found mine had fallen into one of the bags I bagged.

You scored 93% Beginner, 100% Intermediate, 100% Advanced, and 72% Expert! And really I would not have used a semicolon in that one sentence at all; a comma would have been sufficient.

I'm glad you're OK Marv. Take it easy for a few days, you might not feel the true effects for a little while.

Things are OK for now... My shin is bruised to hell.

http://marvthegrate.afraid.org/pics/accident/shin.JPG

If you look closely at my right shin (forground) you can see the knot below the knee. If the sweeling is not down in the morning I am going to go to the doc just to be sure things are kosher. Other than that I can't really see much wrong with me. I know that full effects won't be known for a while.

Enjoy Rosemary!

You weren't kidding when you said it looks like you have an extra knee Marv! Too bad you're 2k miles away Marv, we could go shooting on Monday.

So Edith Bowman wins Red Nose Fame Accademy , ousting the Eastenders expected winner from the podium. Strange as the Eastenders' one was rumoured to have a million pound record contract lined up, but Edith Bowman, DJ, refuses to become involved in recording world. It would be strange playing a record on radio you had recorded yourself.
Could be a touch of the Tony Blackburns.

100% Beginner, 93% Intermediate, 100% Advanced, and 83% Expert!

No, you can't stick a comma there, d'E. 'However' joins 2 ideas in 2 sentences (it's an adverbial):

'I am poor. However, my family is rich.' (or 'I am poor. My family, however, is rich.' or 'I am poor. My family is rich, however.')

I think you're thinking of conjunctions like although (2 ideas in one sentence):

'I am poor although my family is rich.' Technically you don't need the comma there at all though. Compare: 'Although I am poor, my family is rich.'

Oh dear. Sorry. I love punctuation.

Good thing I wasn't required to actually spell out the words in the test. Sigh. I feel much the same way about natural spellers who look down on people like me (have you *any* idea how much effort I put into my spelling. Well, have you???!!!) as Kelli does about thin people who look down on fat people.

Thank gods for Ag who recognises it's a natural gift! Although reading a lot didn't help me in the slightest.

Now I've forgotton what else I wanted to say... Probably give a big cup of tea to Kelli and Ag for wrestling with the wedding things. It will be worth it: you'll have a blast.

I learned English at school a long time ago but it looks like the spelling has developed since then and that it is allowed to spell several words in different ways, as it is in Danish. I went for the choice I was sure of. Maybe my English is a bit archaic. It is interesting to discover how the language developes in the different books I read in English/American, for instance from the 40es through to today - but what sticks is what I have learned when I was young.

Marv, ouch. smiley - cheerup. You should all be attentive to symtoms of whiplash (if that is what it is called), I've heard.

Have a nice Easter, Rosemary smiley - smiley

Marv - its fine to call me Jo or Joanna or J'au - I realise I ask for trouble by spelling my name this way, but it's still pronounced "Joanna" smiley - winkeye

Oh and hi StrangelyStrange smiley - smiley - I didn't manage to say hello on the last thread...

I couldn't decide who I liked better out of Edith and Kim. I think I liked Edith marginally better... I just wish they'd given Reggie better songs to sing.

tartaronne, it is called whiplash, and your English is excellent. There are so many people who post here who I forget don't speak English as a first language...

To Jo.
To be honest, I wouldn't buy records by any of the contestants.
May I take this opportunity to stand up for Richard Parks. Most of the time what he says is true, people might not want to here it but it's still true. There was one occasion when someone sang out of tune and everyone, except him, kept saying it was fantastic, but he stuck to his guns and got attacked for telling truth.
Most of the arguements are started by the presenter,Patrick, not Richard Parks. Still it would be boring if everyone was like the opera singing judge and said every contestant was wonderful!
