The whole 1337 thing is really a sore spot in history of hackish culture. If you want to have a good read on the subject, read The Hacker's Dictionary or go to it's online version at http://www.jargon.org . I've a heavily bookmarked copy of the dictionary in my collection. It's a must for people interested in the origins of hackerdom.

A787917 - I knew the "3"s were to be interpreted as "E"s, but could make no sense of "1EE7". Now it makes sense, sort of. It's like a long, drawn out inside joke that has no true inside.

Hullo Folks
I am feeling much better of late, (I have even stopped re-arranging the furniture)
Caer, hope all was ok with H's work, to B's Dad and
at films with bad historical detail. It’s bad enough that (usually) the Americans rewrite history in films, but for schools to use it as teaching

Looks like I'm getting me that new job! Bwahaha! Starting in 11 days so there's plenty of time to spend all the money saved from the last gig

I've always loved Beetles, Toc. Probably comes from my wayward youth when a best friend had one and we raised hell in it. It was green - and a convertible! Awesome car.
You guys didn't know I was ever young, did you.

This social studies teacher is also working on his Masters in holocaust studies. I can only imagine what the suggested films for that subject might be.

Not that anybody noticed your e-mail addy dropping some postings earlier and were like hanging around to try and get a fancy mug. Who'd do such a thing...
On another : Now in severe "gearing-up" mode to go hear Diana Krall in Copenhagen on Friday
The whole family is going - 11 is as "mad" about her as I am, 8 and Mrs SG V only slightly less. So we decided to dish out for four tickets and got them on the balcony where there'll be a little less people. Not that it's a rock-type concert with stage-diving but nevertheless.
While packing my stuff to go to w**k this morning, I had "I don't know enough about you" on full blast from the Live in Paris DVD. Prompty, both kids - who were kind of occupied with brushing teeth - stood there and smiled as much as they could through white foam

Phil:
When I was assigned to military duty in Iceland, the aurora borealis was one of the most spectacular phenomena I’d ever witnessed. The magnetic flux would color the sky in green or blue or—sometimes—red scintillating swatches that seemed to billow like curtains wafted by a light breeze. One of God’s little ‘eye candy’ stunts to impress the natives. My wife, my kids, and I would sometimes wander outside during the Winter months, onto the snow-muffled tract between the housing units on base, and just stand in awe of that mighty display. I tried to explain to my kids some of the celestial forces that impinged upon each other to cause the aurora, and the recollection of it made me marvel at the complex processes that generate it. I don’t believe we ever adequately captured them on film, which is a shame. I’d like to have had a keepsake of those times, in the form of that unique panoply of lights.
For those who want to see some incredible snapshots of auroras, this site (http://www.ptialaska.net/~hutch/aurora.html) real does them some justice. Look way down to “Latest Images” to view an animated gif file of the dancing lights.

D’E is right about your contribution to the Divination article. That’s a marvelous complement to the text. Sort of an I Ching / Yin & Yang representation, eh? Perfectly suited for the topic.

The aurora borealis was back again last night, but we had a thick cloud cover. I didn't go to bed until late, and then got up at 1am and 5am to see if the skies were clear, but no luck.
Lucky you, Santra! I like Diana Krall a lot, and of all the celebrity couples out there on the I like her and Elvis Costello the best.

Agapanthus Posted Nov 10, 2004
I had the most horrid start to the day this morning. I dreamt that S had died, and I was trying to get home to sort everything out but I just couldn't function as I kept stopping to scream and cry. I woke up in an absolute tizzy - and S wasn't in bed next to me. Oh the relief when he came back in from the bathroom, saw I was in tears and gave me a cuddle. I felt rather like Caesar's wife when he went off to work and have been rather wibbly all day. The chap in the toiletry shop gave me an extra-soothing bath ballistic for free - did I look that bad? Obviously I did, but bless his cotton socks.
I think we should all have another group , really. If Mercury isn't going retrograde yet, something else most certainly is.

Have a fabulous time. It may be Embra, but it's still Scotland. Raise a glass there to the spirits of the place for me.

*collapses in a small heap on the sofa*
I've started my 8 days of supply teaching. The money is good... the money is good... I have to keep saying this because the rest of it is not good.
A summary: 7am start an hour and a half bus journey
a school in special measures
Special measures means it has been inspected by the government and found to be seriously wanting. The senior management team was largely replaced and those that remain have just a few months to turn the school around. I don't think they're going to manage it because their main strategy is to wear black suits and spout acronyms in staff meetings.
The kids are nice but totally out of control and not learning anything. They only attend for the social aspect.
Most of the staff are off ill - I met more supply staff that regular teachers. I received no help, no work was set, no class lists were provided, I scrounged a general syllabus off another supply teacher and that's all I have to work to. I have no idea what the kids have done before. I'm soooo looking forward to next Friday.
*set off to prepare lessons*
